Clinicas Santara have occupied beds for COVID-19 patients, which will stop some scheduled services

“The flow of patients is very high, yesterday the Center for Infectious Diseases was filled with everything possible. Other beds are open in certain pavilions of Santara’s clinics, which are also starting to fill up.

We are already directing a large number of patients from the reception to the support hospital, Antakalnis Hospital. It’s only today at 8pm. The morning opened, but it is possible that as many beds as were ready were already taken. The situation is very tense and I fully agree with the words of the Minister that we really need to focus now, “said Professor L. Jančorienė on Friday afternoon.

The Santara clinics reported that as the long weekend approached and the tense epidemiological situation was monitored, steps were being taken to manage large flows of patients and prevent patients with other illnesses from being treated in the hospital.

As of October 30, 97 patients with COVID-19 were in treatment, five of them in the Intensive Care Unit. The additionally equipped COVID-19 compartment II (in casing C) with 30 beds is almost full. In total, the VUL Santara clinics have 102 facilities for patients with COVID-19 disease.

Santara Clinics is an institution that organizes COVID-19 processes in the Vilnius region, so today, Friday, October 30, 30 patients in stable condition are transferred to the Vilnius City Clinical Hospital. Patients from the Vilnius City Ambulance Station also assist in transporting patients.

Currently, Vilnius City Clinical Hospital has 30 places for COVID-19 patients and additional facilities are being arranged; the hospital is ready to leave 86 free places. With the increasing number of infected people, the transfer of patients is being discussed with M. Marcinkevičius, the Republican University of Vilnius, Ukmergė and other hospitals in the region.

“Necessary assistance and planned services continue to be provided, transplants and other emergency procedures are performed.

We will optimize planned services, that is, we will postpone only those services that will not worsen the health status of patients or cause other undesirable consequences, – commented Professor Feliksas Jankevičius, general director of VUL Santara Clinics, on the situation in a report distributed by Hospital. “We will also optimize outpatient services, that is, we will provide remote consultations to patients who come for a second or third medical opinion or for regular health monitoring, which also served during the first wave of coronavirus infection.”

In the Santara clinics, 41 doctors were diagnosed with coronavirus infection and 46 were isolated due to contacts.

“Based on world practice and reliable data from recent virological studies, which have demonstrated the obvious benefits of personal protective equipment, as well as social distance in stopping the spread of the virus, we ask everyone: doctors, their families and the general public wearing masks … The second wave is complicated, so we have to focus on getting the necessary medical services for everyone, ”says Prof F. Jankevičius.

Despite the high number of infections, treatment is needed for 10-12 percent. of those infected, resuscitation and intensive care, about 3 percent.

The planned measures should provide medical care and assistance to all patients during the upcoming long weekend.
