In Lithuania, on March 16, all public services were suspended due to the spread of the coronavirus after the introduction of quarantine. As of April 27, the mass with the faithful was renewed during the week.

Church officials say the flow of believers will be restricted, they must wear masks and there will be disinfectants at the entrance of the churches.

“Believers are admitted to the church with face masks, keeping a safe distance between the faithful, 10 square meters per person,” said Ieva Urbonaitė, spokesperson for the Lithuanian Episcopal Conference.

If the gathered faithful do not fit in the church, the believers will be invited to listen to the mass outside, keeping a distance of two meters between the people. Communion is divided into hands.

Believers who are at risk or have symptoms of the disease are encouraged not to attend churches but to listen to worship remotely.

Coronavirus is especially dangerous for people over 60 and people with chronic diseases.

The bishops maintain that a grave danger to their own health or the health of others, according to the teachings of the Church, is a sufficient reason to exempt themselves from attending St. Mass on ordained Sundays and holidays.
