Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub told a news conference that the body, which search groups found floating on the northeast edge of Lake Piru on Monday, is a 33-year-old missing actress.

Ayub added that the autopsy and official identification had not yet been done, but the location of the body and the fact that no other person had been reported missing from the lake led to the conclusion that “the body we found is Nayos Riveros” .

Rivera’s disappearance was reported five days earlier when the actress’s four-year-old son was found sleeping in an inflatable boat rented by his mother on July 8, authorities said.

Rivera’s son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, said they and their mother got out of the boat to swim in the lake. The boy told investigators that his mother then helped him board the boat, and then turned and saw her disappear into the ocean, the sheriff said.

“Well, she has accumulated enough energy to get her son onto the boat, but not enough to save herself,” said the sheriff. Authorities said they believe N. Rivera drowned.

A major search operation was conducted on the lake, an hour’s drive from Los Angeles. Dozens of divers attended, in addition to sonar, underwater robots, helicopters, and drones.

The sheriff said the body of the deceased was likely trapped in the dense vegetation for several days before finally surfacing.

When Rivera was browsing, he was talking to his family through the FaceTime app. Hunt groups looked at those videos, trying to guess where he might have drowned, Ayub said.

“It was an extremely difficult time for his family during this test,” said the sheriff. “We cry with them.”

N. Rivera played the lead singer of the sports dancers company Santana Lopes for six seasons in the series “Choras” shown on Fox TV. He became the third major member of this series of actors to die from the start.

Actor Cory Monteith, who previously played on the series seven years ago, died at the age of 31 from an alcohol and heroin overdose. The series then lost one of its main actors while it was still airing.

And actor Mark Salling, whom N. Rivera met at the same time, committed suicide in 2018 at the age of 35, pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.
