China did not allow an expert from the World Health Organization (WHO) to investigate the origins of COVID-19, one expert has already interrupted the trip and the other stopped en route in a transit country.

WHO reports that experts have been handicapped due to improper visa processing, the BBC reports. They were not allowed to walk to the market in the Chinese city of Uhan i io, and a coronavirus pandemic raged for years.

The WHO, after months of negotiations, finally agreed with Beijing in December that a 10-member international team of experts would investigate China to investigate the origin of the animal virus and the precision with which it was infested. On Tuesday, WHO experts were reported to be heading to China, but the permit was later revoked.

WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus said he was very disappointed that China had not yet completed the team’s admission process. According to him, he was assured that China would speed up the procedure and specialists could attend.
