“We have always spoken of the need to defend our options only in a legal and non-violent way. And the peaceful exit of citizens to the streets was turned into bloody carnage by the authorities.

The situation is critical, with a painful vision of what has been happening in our country in recent days. For me, I am sure, like all supporters of change, human life is the most valuable thing. We need to stop the violence in the streets of the country. I call on the authorities to put an end to it and to enter into a dialogue, ”he said.

The winner of the presidential elections, S. Chichanouskaya, called on the mayors of all cities to hold massive peaceful demonstrations from August 15 to 16.

“New peaceful actions have appeared in the streets of our cities, solidarity chains with women with flowers. Absolutely not militant. They show the whole world that Belarusians, open and honest people, are against violence, ”he said.

The candidate thanked officials “who refused to commit crimes against their own citizens” by workers who had gone on strike in factories.

Cichanouskaya requested the signature of those who voted for her. “Our voices must be heard,” he said.

Russian independent journalist Leonid Ragozin noted that Chichanouskaya emphasized the need for peaceful protests.

“If police brutality is also met with violence, protesters could fall into the trap. This would divide society, marginalize protests and bring Russian intervention closer.

The opposition now appears to be trying to present clear arguments why Lukashenko is not legitimate and why he should withdraw. Mayors and various mid-level officials can help achieve these goals, ”says L. Ragozin.

S.Cichanouskaja arrived in Lithuania overnight from Monday to Tuesday, after spending several hours at the headquarters of the Central Election Commission (CEC).

According to Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius, S.Cichanouskaja “apparently came under some pressure” and “had no choice but to leave the country”. Belarusian officials “did not hinder the exit or assist.” The children of S.Cichanouskaja have already arrived in Lithuania. Her husband is imprisoned in Belarus.
