Next week, the Lithuanian men’s basketball team will start preparing for the European Basketball Championship qualifiers with the national teams of Denmark and Belgium. Darius Maskoliūnas students will begin the training process on Tuesday, but even earlier they had to make changes to their composition.
Instead of Gytis Masiulis, who has not yet fully returned to the rhythm of the game, Darius Maskoliūnas invited the tall Marekas Blaževičius to Kaunas “Žalgiris”.
“The situation with Gytis is such that he was ill, he has not been trained for a long time and he is not fully prepared. Marek was at our camp in the summer, he knows the system and how we will play. Also, during the Euroleague match, he doesn’t have a chance to express himself so we managed to agree that he should come to us. I am delighted and thankful to “Žalgiris” for agreeing to publish it, “said the director of the Lithuanian men’s basketball team, coach Darius Maskoliūnas.
It was also clear Saturday that there will be more changes to the national team. Šarūnas Vasiliauskas will not be able to help the team due to health problems. He will be replaced by Arnas Velička from France.
Marek already made his debut for the men’s team in the summer control game. In a duel with the Estonian team, he scored 4 points and rebounded 4 rebounds. In the meeting with Latvia, the tallest scored 12 points and bounced 9 balls.
In the Lithuanian Basketball League championship, the forward earns 9.5 points and rebounds on 4.5 balls.
This season, Velička, who plays for the CBA team of Reims and Champagne in France, will make his debut for the Lithuanian national team.
The basketball player has not played in the French league with the team since the end of October, as the championship has been suspended; only three teams have agreed to play at home.

“When I have a situation like this now, I would play with the greatest pleasure in the national team,” Velička said in an interview with the website BasketNews.lt on November 8. – I would really be very happy, I only played in all the youth teams. It would be great to take the next step. “
In the French league, Velička wins an average of 11.8 points in 28 minutes, rebounds after 3.7 balls, makes 5.8 assists (6th place in the league) and accumulates 13.3 utility points.
On November 27, Lithuania will test its strength with the Danish team, which has not yet met in the national team, and on November 29, the team will seek a rematch against Belgium, which was divided in the first round. Both games will be broadcast live on TV3 TV.
So far, the Lithuanians are in second place in group C and share it with the Czech team: both teams have achieved a victory and each suffered a defeat. First, Belgium, which advances without defeats, and at the end of the group, Denmark, which has not yet felt the taste of victory.
