Capsians Are Worried: Locals See Illegal Immigrants Walking Through Forest

“There are specific people of ours who have encountered groups of illegal immigrants, larger or smaller, while returning to the forests. One such case was that of Lake Ančia, where it was almost ten kilometers from the border with Belarus. Here, the woman met four young Afro-descendants with berries, ”said the community leader.

According to the woman, the men did not flee when they saw the stranger, but rather approached her.

“It was said that there is a ‘tourist’, that ‘nature’, we understand, is to do tourism in nature. It’s been since the Kapčiamiestis forests are on walking maps, tell me? He asked in which direction Paris. Another case: in the nursery, in the forest. Another, in the Leipalingis area towards Druskininkai, a family with a house in the forest received four blacks in the yard at night. The fact is that some of them are in detention, while others are successfully moving to the depths of the country, ”said R. Karauskienė about the stories heard from the community.

Rimantas Pileckas, director of the Kapčiamiestis nursery in the Veisiejai forest district and a member of the Lazdijai district municipal council, spoke about another meeting with a group of various illegal immigrants.

“The women who worked in the nursery went to work last week, like it was on a Friday, early in the morning, around six o’clock, before it was hot. And in Pertaku, in the forest, I met a group of about 10 to 12 blacks. Some of them ran to hide in the depths of the forest, and the women covered their faces and asked for the way to Paris. It is more than 6 kilometers from the state border to the place where they were found, ”said the ranger.

As you know, a large group of illegal immigrants was detained in Kapčiamiestis at night from Thursday to Friday. They are located on the premises of the Kapčiamiestis basic school.

Both cases were reported to the police and border guards. The largest group, said to have been detained, is not yet aware of the remaining four.

Ausma Miškinienė, mayor of Lazdijai district, says that these stories are undoubtedly true, and this shows that some illegal people avoid arrest.

“It means that today we cannot guarantee residents that such people will not visit their yards. So far, thank God, there have been no incidents, but you never know if there will be, ”said A. Miškinienė.

The mayor does not hide the fact that the uninvited guests are already showing their cultural and behavioral peculiarities.

“The biggest challenge is explaining that the school’s toilets are not suitable for flushing plastic or haircuts, and even less for washing feet. Unfortunately, this is not an attempt to offend newcomers, it is simply an obvious fact. Starting on Friday, when they are settled, our water supply company will unclog the sewage systems every day, ”said the Lazdijai district chief.

71 illegal immigrants have been housed in the Lazdijai district. On Wednesday afternoon, they will be transferred from the Kapčiamiestis school to the premises for the weekend at the former children’s residence “Židinys”.

At a meeting of the Association of Lithuanian Municipalities, mayors, the Interior Ministry and SBGS on Wednesday, border guards acknowledged that some of the refugees could not be detained.

“We estimate that about 1 percent of those who crossed the border illegally cannot be detained, they are likely going deep, perhaps trying to enter Poland,” said Vidas Mačaitis, deputy commander of SBGS.

The meeting also discussed the premises in which municipalities could house illegal residents. The municipalities have not hidden that the regions are full of empty vocational school premises in summer that can be used, but their owner, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, continues to delay the abandonment of these premises.
