Cancel culture in Lithuania, or Why do Lithuanians withdraw people from public life? | Names

Once upon a time, some people who bragged on magazine covers, discussed themselves widely in the media, or who chose brands like faces are now or have been out of public life for some time. And not voluntarily, they were simply withdrawn, pushed to the margins of society, condemned for their behavior or speeches.

It is in the Western world where this phenomenon is most often associated with controversial public statements, discrimination against minorities, sexual harassment, etc. – a company or brands that do not tolerate such behavior condemn a famous person, refuse to follow him or work with him, execute a moral judgment.

However, Lithuania is still following different trends: here the “revocation” of a person due to human rights issues remains a relatively rare phenomenon.

So why do Lithuanians tend to remember stars, influencers, or brands? Why do we differ from progressive countries in these matters? Which Lithuanian stars would already be revoked if they lived abroad and why are people in Lithuania revoked more often by right-wing radicals?

There is a conversation about this with the communication expert Ariijus Katauskas and the sociologist Artūras Tereškinas.
