“The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have been vaccinated against COVID-19 today,” said a spokesman for Buckingham Palace.

The source told the British Press Association that the 94-year-old queen and her husband, Philip, 99, had been vaccinated at Windsor Castle by a royal family doctor.

No further details were released.

In the UK, more than 1.5 million have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to date. Over the largest immunization program in the country’s history, priority is given to the elderly, their caregivers and health workers.

Currently, the country is getting vaccinated with two types of approved vaccines in a rush to vaccinate as many people as possible as soon as possible, as a new strain of coronavirus that spreads easily is steadily increasing the number of infections and deaths.

On Friday, the UK reported a record 1,325 COVID-19 deaths per day, bringing the total number of deaths to nearly 80,000. A record number of new cases was also recorded at 68,053.

Queen Elizabeth II and Philip spent most of the pandemic in Windsor due to their honorable age, and Christmas was greeted at Sandringham Manor in eastern England.
