According to Giedrė Aleksienė, head of the NVSC’s Communicable Disease Management Division, who is acting temporarily as director, many active outbreaks have not been recorded since winter.

“I don’t want to be intimidated, but the epidemiological situation remains tense. For ten weeks in a row, we have been recording the rise in the outbreak curve and, in absolute numbers, we are at the level of the winter months,” says G. Aleksienė .

At the time, Rolanda Lingienė, head of the Vilnius department of NVSC, emphasizes that such an epidemiological situation means that everyone’s conscience is more important than ever.

“Do not forget all preventive measures: hand hygiene, etiquette when coughing and sneezing, keep your distance, especially in public places where you meet people you do not communicate with every day. Also, be sure to wear masks, regardless whether it is required or not. Do not risk your health and the health of others. If you experience specific symptoms of COVID-19, stay home.

And of course, be sure to get vaccinated and encourage your loved ones, friends, to do the same. We are all responsible for the epidemiological situation and for how we will live in the near future ”, the doctor reminds us of the most important rules. epidemiologist R.Lingienė.

The most active outbreaks continue to be registered in educational institutions

At the end of last week, the most active outbreaks were registered in educational institutions. 301 outbreaks accounted for 60 percent. all active COVID-19 outbreaks reported in the country. Compared with week 37 of the year, the structure of the outbreaks did not change: the absolute majority, that is, about 85%, were outbreaks registered in primary, basic and secondary schools.

The highest number of active outbreaks in educational institutions was recorded in Klaipėda, Kaunas, Šiauliai counties, the lowest – in Utena, Tauragė and Alytus counties.

The increase in active outbreaks was also recorded last week by epidemiologists from the sectors of sewing, services, logistics and transport and agriculture. In week 38 of the year, it was insignificant and ranged from a few to several percent.

In addition, NVSC specialists in medical and social services recorded more active outbreaks in the past week. 45 and 12 active outbreaks were registered, respectively.

According to epidemiologists, although the number of outbreaks in these institutions is increasing, their growth is not as significant as it was last fall, when the employees, patients and residents of these institutions were not vaccinated. This shows once again the importance of vaccination for the epidemiological situation.

At the same time, for the first time in three months, when there was weekly growth in active outbreaks, favorable trends were observed in the manufacturing sector. There were 38 active outbreaks in week 38 of the year and 49 active outbreaks in the previous week.

Less active outbreaks compared to the previous period, specialists observed last week in the food industry and construction companies. Six (11 weeks in the previous week) and three (four weeks in the previous week) active outbreaks of COVID-19 were reported, respectively.

In total, as of the end of last week, 504 active COVID-19 outbreaks were recorded in Lithuania, compared with 374 a week earlier.

The NVSC recalls that an outbreak is a sudden spread of a communicable disease that affects a limited number of people and / or a limited area, that is, two or more interrelated cases of the disease in time and space.
