Border Guard Commander: Arrival controls may be strengthened in the near future

According to him, the Government Emergency Commission (IACC) is “sufficiently active” and several possible options are being considered.

“We border guards are preparing for that. We would probably talk about a certain measure of control at airports, perhaps at seaports, evaluating those so-called risky trips,” R. Liubajev told LRT radio.

According to him, should such requirements arise, border guards could help National Public Health Center (NVSC) staff to check whether travelers provide test results or register on NVSC’s website upon arrival.

According to the SBGS commander, a decision on further measures can be made from next week.

“We may have some changes next week … I think next week, if the situation in other countries doesn’t really improve, those decisions will be made,” he said.

Mr. Liubayev also mentioned that additional controls could be carried out at the country’s internal borders, but a total closure has not yet been considered.

“So far that option is not being considered, we will probably get some additional control measures, but so far we have not talked about the total closure option,” said the border commander.
