Coronavirus situation:
* 735 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths have been confirmed in Lithuania – this is the highest number of daily deaths recorded so far. In Lithuanian hospitals, 415 people are treated for COVID-19, 35 of them in resuscitation.
* The government and doctors are urging people to avoid family gatherings late on the weekend and to visit the graves of loved ones at other times when there are fewer people in the cemetery.

* After utilizing the capacity of the Santara clinics, the Vilnius region COVID-19 patients were admitted to the Vilnius City Clinical Hospital. In the Kaunas region, COVID-19 patients are admitted to Marijampolė and Jurbarkas hospitals, where they are equipped with 30 and 20 beds, respectively.
* The British introduced mandatory two-week self-isolation for people from Lithuania. This requirement will take effect on Sunday at 6 am Lithuanian time.
Closing the wall. Belarus has restricted access to the country, citing efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic. Only Belarusians and foreigners who have work visas, employment contracts or residence permits in Belarus are allowed. Freight traffic flows are not restricted.
VPN guide. Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis appointed Darius Vedrickas, Director of the Central Procurement Authority, to the position of Head of the Public Procurement Office (VPN). VPN has not had a permanent boss since October last year, when Diana Vilytė resigned from this position. The Office is temporarily headed by Deputy Director Jovita Petkuvienė.
Lithuania GDP. Lithuania’s gross domestic product decreased by 1.4 percent in the three quarters of this year compared to January-September 2019. In the third quarter, it was 3.7 percent. higher than in April-June this year. This suggests that the economy has returned to normal after the spring quarantine, but as the epidemiological situation deteriorates, the trends in the last quarter may once again be worse.

Ministerial career. Outgoing Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas claims to become Consul General of Lithuania in Los Angeles. His candidacy must be considered soon by the attestation commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, informed sources of the BNS reported.
Chinese anger. The Chinese embassy in Lithuania on Friday expressed outrage at the Freedom Party’s ambition to support Taiwan’s independence. “The embassy expresses strong indignation and strong opposition. There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an integral part of China’s territory,” the embassy said in a statement. In this way, the Chinese reacted to the proposals published by the Freedom Party for a government program. They state that the objective would be “to actively support Taiwan’s aspirations for recognition of independence and statehood.”
Earthquake. An earthquake of approximately seven magnitude occurred in the Aegean off the coasts of Greece and Turkey on Friday afternoon. There are reports of buildings demolished, no data on the victims yet.
Powers of the judges. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted a bill to parliament to end the current term of all judges of the Constitutional Court. It also proposes that the decision of this court on the unconstitutionality of certain provisions of the anti-corruption laws have no legal consequences.
Muslim protests. Tens of thousands of Muslims organized demonstrations in Bangladesh and Pakistan against French President Emmanuel Macron for his stance on Islamic extremism. Tensions are currently rising after an attack on a church in Nice, France. Macron called the crime an “Islamist terrorist attack” and his foreign minister warned that the French are currently under threat around the world.
Virus threat. The United Nations Commission on Biodiversity warns that there are up to 850,000 species of viruses that prevail in animal organisms and have the potential to infect humans, as has been the case with the new coronavirus. According to them, the destruction of natural habitats and rampant consumption greatly increases the likelihood that some specific diseases from animals will be transmitted to humans in the future.
Euthanasia. New Zealand voters voted in a referendum to legalize euthanasia, but against legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes.
