Bit Lithuania won a tender announced by the US company iTraq and will cover around 100,000 of its events. These events are extremely popular with logistics companies, as they monitor the location of trucks and cars, capture other important information in the US, Canada, Mexico and other neighboring markets.

After this transaction, the US company has become the largest commercial customer of Bits according to the SIM card used, announces the operator. Bit was the first Lithuanian operator in the US market to activate the new Internet of Things technology LTE CAT-M1.

This is the first Bits customer of this size and profile when we sell our services outside of Lithuania. We are attractive to iTraq and other similar companies for various approaches. First of all, we are smaller and faster than the big US carriers, so we can offer a more flexible service to our customers in Lithuania. We also resolve the issue of coverage of the US territory, the essence and reasons for the transaction are explained by Pranas Kuisys, CEO of Bits.

In the US, unlike Lithuania, rice operators do not cover the entire territory of the country. Traveling too much and using the services of a single operator leaves you offline in some areas. This problem is solved by roaming. ITraq events also work, and the service itself is not connected to an operator when the connection is weakened, the event automatically switches to the strongest Bits partner network at that location.

The American company iTraq makes a variety of GPS trackers, which are used by quite a few Danes to track the location of shipments and inverted items. Events transmit data via mobile or wireless devices, and owners can view location, record ambient temperature, and other important metrics on an online platform or app.

Bit showed that the distance of almost 10,000 kilometers and the different time zones do not prevent personalized attention and much greater flexibility than US silo operators. From now on, Bits SIM cards will be available at all of our events sold not only in the US, but also in the Asian and European markets. We are currently using tens of thousands of Lithuanian SIM cards and by 2022. Their number is expected to reach 100,000, says Roman Isakov, iTraq krjas and manager.

Things on the Internet

For US customers, Bits technical specialists have also used the new generation of LTE CAT-M1 Internet technology.

US carriers are rapidly switching to previous generation 2G and 3G networks and are fully transitioning to 4G technology. Migration is a major challenge for Internet and telematics service providers, as most solutions operate on 2G networks. Seeing this trend, we were the first Lithuanian operator to activate LTE CAT-M1 technology while roaming in the United States, helping to cover mobile IoT events. The new technology is based on the 4G network, which was a great challenge for our technicians, because before the start of the technology, everything had to be tested and coordinated with all the major mobile operators in the United States, says P. Kuisys.

According to him, in the long term, in the field of Internet of things, the 2G network around the world will be replaced by LTE CAT-M1 and NB-IoT technologies. The former will be used by manufacturers for mobile events, while the latter will be used in various fixed sensors, meters, which are carried out in Denmark at home, in schools or in other hard-to-reach places.

Bit is also developing NB-IoT technology in Lithuania, together with partners installing water meters in Vilnius. V also writes that three major competing Internet of Things technology networks have been connected and developed in Lithuanian cities: LoRa (Long Range), NB IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things) and Sigfox.

Rare in the export market

Although exports of services in the information and telecommunications (ICT) sector have grown rapidly in recent years, growth has been modest only for telecommunications companies.

Exports of services in the ICT sector are growing particularly fast between 2015 and 2019. It increased by an average of 29% annually. This growth was mainly due to the information services and computer programming sectors. At that time, the telecommunications sector in 2015-2019. On average, Vadimas Ivanovas, Head of Lithuania’s Business Research and Analysis Division, grew by just 1.6% annually.

He adds that the discovery of new opportunities for the sector to expand its sales in foreign markets is optimistic. Especially taking into account that the ICT sector is classified as a sector with greater added value, it is characterized by more novelty.

According to trade data from Lithuania, in 2019. Telecommunication services were exported at about 81 million. The main export markets were Latvia (€ 12 million, or 15%), Sweden (€ 8.7 million or 10.7%) and the United States (€ 8.5 million or 10.4% ).
