“Cichanouskaya’s office has launched an information campaign to provide all citizens with detailed information on the pros and cons of disconnecting from SWIFT, as well as to express their opinions on the matter on the Golos platform,” Cichanouskaya said in an official statement. on Telegram on Thursday.

Belarus has faced massive protests for the fourth month in a row since the August 9 presidential election, which was declared the winner by Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994. The opposition and Western democracies consider these elections rigged.

The protesters are demanding the resignation of Lukashenko, the release of political prisoners and new elections.

During the protests, Cichanouskaya’s supporters established a Coordination Council calling for a broad national dialogue, one of whose goals would be to repeat presidential elections.

The Minsk regime considers the Coordination Council unconstitutional.

The SWIFT disconnection is one of the means to pressure the government, initiated by the Belarusian opposition. Other pressure measures include the extension of sanctions, as well as the introduction of restrictions on the purchase of Belarusian oil products and other products from state-owned companies.
