Before the vote on the LTOK scepter: angry dispute between Gudzinevičiūtė and Pukelis and “OMON behind the door”

D. Gudzinevičiūtė, the current head of the organization, who presented her program before the LTOK presidential elections, also received uncomfortable questions about the alleged atmosphere of fear in LTOK, the situation of the Olifėja lottery company and the unlimited terms.

Arūnas Pukelis, Vice President of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), participating in the Assembly for the first time, also made statements.

He criticized the LTOK bylaws, noting that the president-elect has the right to nominate seven candidates for the executive committee. This constitutes the majority of votes in the latter.

“These statutes denigrate people as honorable as Naglis Nasvytis, who place themselves in ambiguous positions completely unnecessarily. The statutes must be changed to guarantee democracy,” urged A. Pukelis.

D. Gudzinevičiūtė replied that the LFF statutes were allegedly not published at all on the federation’s website.

“Maybe not everyone knows how to use a computer,” said A. Pukelis.

Also moving was the speech by Arvydas Juozaitis, a member of the reconstruction group LTOK, on the, in his opinion, the broken relations with the Latvian Olympic Committee, which ended in a reply that caused a stir in the hall.

“It feels like Lukashenko in Belarus,” said A. Juozaitis.

“Yes, OMON is already behind the door,” said D. Gudzinevičiūtė from the rostrum.

We remind you that D. Gudzinevičiūtė, 54, was elected president of LTOK for the first time in 2012 in place of his predecessor Artūras Poviliūnas. He then surpassed another Olympic champion, former discus thrower Virgilijus Aleknas, in the elections.

In 2016, Mr. Gudzinevičiūtė secured his second term without running for election.

In turn, E. Vaitkaitis, 40, previously announced that he will no longer hold a new term as president of the Swimming Federation, regardless of the electoral core of the LTOK.

Although the Sports Law requires that the country’s sports federations establish in their statutes the maximum number of consecutive executive terms, the LTOK has no such restriction.

The only limit is that all LTOK members, including representatives of the governing bodies, must resign at the age of 70.
