Doctors in Klaipeda and in this region have been praised for their work in the fight against the coronavirus. People whose efforts helped manage the pandemic received awards from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania.

The awards were presented today at the University of Klaipeda to the port city and other doctors in this region, as well as to other people involved in the fight against the coronavirus.

A total of 95 medals were awarded “For a significant contribution to the health of the Lithuanian people” to 95 doctors from Klaipėda, Tauragė, Kretinga, Šilutė, Šilalė, Gargždai, Palanga, Neringa, Skuodas and employees of the Municipal Administration of the city of Klaipėda.

Congratulating the audience, Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga stated that the coronavirus test was extraordinary. According to him, at first it was difficult to believe that this was true, there were several considerations about how much and what measures should be taken.

“Lithuania is in the top five honorable countries that have coped well with this first stage. Nothing has happened here yet. The virus has not disappeared anywhere, it is alive,” emphasized A. Veryga.

He also emphasized the responsibility and awareness of the people who emerged during the quarantine, and not only doctors, but also employees of other services, volunteers, etc., made a significant contribution to the rather successful management of the situation.

According to the Minister of Health, after a difficult period, now is the time to rest a little, rest a little.

“Very often it is said that we are not working for the awards. It is clear that we are not. However, the awards or certain symbols are important. Because the rhythm is crazy, everything runs very fast, many things will be erased, they will forget, others will stop. ” “We do not symbolize certain things, there is nothing that can be seen, read, felt, many things are simply forgotten. Although COVID-19, I think, will not be forgotten. Its role must be at least a little significant,” said A.Veryga .

Vinsas Janušonis, the chief physician at Klaipėda University Hospital, stated that some 300 people were looted at the hospital under his leadership. Furthermore, this hospital was central throughout the region.

“As you can see, someone will undoubtedly be disappointed. He will not evaluate everyone with medals. On the other hand, everyone who worked received quite significant bonuses. And we increased the salaries ourselves, they are evaluated as budgetary bonuses by decision of the Government,” V. Janušonis said.

Admittedly, among all the award-winning physicians, there were none of the leading physicians in Klaipeda hospitals.

Prize winners include Saulius Dabravalskis, Chief Physician, Sailors’ Health Care Center, and Loreta Venckienė, Chief Physician, Klaipėda City Polyclinic.
