It not only measures speed

Average speed meters on the country’s roads, and more precisely, high-definition video camera systems, now capture more than just speed enthusiasts.

Currently, 25-caliber cameras that monitor 25 sections of national importance also scan the plates of all passing cars. All of them are automatically verified in the databases, the system determines whether the car is covered by compulsory liability insurance or valid proof of technical inspection.

In the future, the number of these systems, which measure not only the average speed on the road sections, but also verify other information in the country’s road databases, will increase significantly. The Highway Administration plans to buy 212 new meters and equip 106 highway sections with them.

The system is still being improved and there are many criminals.

As the number of surveillance cameras on the roads increases, the number of violations detected by them is likely to increase proportionally, at least initially.

According to the Lithuanian Highway Police Board, the system, which, based on information provided by average speed meters, checks whether the car is insured, whether a technical inspection has been carried out, and automatically prepares violation reports for the owners, has only been in operation since the end of May.

However, the statistics sent to the Delfi portal reveal a grim reality: there are many technically uninsured and uninsured cars on the roads.

According to data from the traffic police, currently 1 thousand. 343 administrative crime reports for people who do not have mandatory auto insurance. 404 uninsured cars belong to the companies that sent the protocols.

With a technical inspection test, the situation is a little better. 136 protocols have already been developed for people who have not undergone a mandatory technical inspection test. They were also received by 62 companies that do not care about the technical condition of their vehicles.

It is true that this system is still being improved. And the “tripods” used by police officers, the PoliScan FM1 mobile speed measurement devices, still do not record whether the car is insured and has a valid roadworthiness certificate.

“However, it must be taken into account that if the aforementioned device detects a higher speed than the one established, the Registry of Administrative Violations automatically verifies if the vehicle is covered by compulsory liability insurance or if it has undergone a technical inspection mandatory, “representatives of the Lithuanian Highway Police told Delfi.

The damage caused by the uninsured is solid.

Algimantas Križinauskas, Director of the Lithuanian Office of Automobile Insurers, told Delfi portal that a large number of cars without compulsory insurance circulate on the country’s roads. Preliminarily, it can be between 50 and 100 thousand. cars.

According to the calculations of A. Križinauskas, every year up to 2,000. Car drivers not covered by the compulsory insurance cause damages for 3-4 million. The largest amount of damage was once 6 million euros. euros In the absence of contracts with insurance companies, the insurance company, which unites insurance companies, is liable for damages. Ultimately, this financial burden falls on drivers who honestly ban cars.

“Let’s face it, it is not a ridiculous amount. This is one of the reasons why insurance is not so cheap. Of course, we have the right to recover damages through recourse, but this is far from always being the case. So , all those honest people who follow the law and take out insurance contribute 1 or 2 euros to the compensation for the damage caused by that culprit, ”said the head of the insurance company.

Uninsured trucks from Lithuanian carriers are “rampant” in Europe

A. Križinauskas, Director of the Office of Insurers, noted another worrying trend. According to him, many carriers in particular ignore the obligation to insure the vehicles they own.

“Then we realized that many international operators do not insure us.” They “terrorize” Europe, and their damage there is much greater than in Lithuania. At least several thousand trucks are not insured, “said A. Križinauskas.

The value of damage in foreign countries is approximately 40 percent of all damage. Although there are fewer disasters abroad, their consequences are much greater. This is because there are significantly more expensive and newer cars in the West. On the other hand, the effects of an accident caused by a tractor are several times greater than those of the automobile that caused the accident.

“But most of it is not even property damage, but personal injury. Especially many of them relate to the health of a person when a British, French or German is injured in a car accident. There are cases when a Paralytic person is paid monthly benefits until the end of his life, ”said A. Križinauskas, Director of the Lithuanian Office of Automobile Insurers, to the Delfi portal.
