Until now, train travel has been a moor where people have tried to circumvent movement restrictions because strict controls have not been applied here. However, on Easter weekend, the chances of an unverified drop will disappear, and the checks began on Thursday.

Today we will review passengers traveling by train, we will talk with them about their stay in Vilnius, the circumstances in which they arrived in Vilnius, where they are going to travel, we will discuss and inform about the requirements of the Government’s decision on quarantine and we will report on the responsibility for non-compliance, “Vilnius said. The head of the city’s third police station, Donald Dubaka.

Several dozen passengers boarded the train heading to Kaunas on Thursday afternoon.

Most of them are Kaunas residents who came to Vilnius for work or medical reasons.

It is true that an inspected young man could not convincingly explain why he visited Vilnius.

“I came to meet a relative, just to talk,” the young man explained to the officer and added. “There should be restrictions here on the weekend, just tougher restrictions on the weekend.”

However, he was informed that the quarantine is valid at all times. A police officer took note of the guy’s details and warned that an investigation would now take place and he faces a fine for coming to the capital without good reason and violating traffic restrictions.

Another girl after the police check said she was happy with the check.

“I live in Kaunas, I work in Vilnius, I never checked as much as I drove, but the wagons were full,” he said.

It is true that a girl managed to avoid the check: she was late for the train, which was almost leaving, so the officers only accompanied her with smiles.

Inspections will be done randomly

As there will not be enough forces to inspect all the trains, the inspections will be carried out at random.

“Checks will be carried out on a regular basis, both inside and outside the train. These inspections organized by us are not scheduled at the exact time, they will simply be carried out not only on the platforms, but also in the waiting room ”, explained D. Dubaka.

According to him, if a person tries to leave without a justifiable reason, he faces a fine.

The chief said that those who provide documents about the property they own, place of residence, a visit to a doctor or a job will be able to travel.

Travel denial – refund

As Linas Baužys, director of LTG Link explained, those who have already bought train tickets but do not have a justifiable reason for the trip will be able to get their money back. 90 people have already done it.

“If the police turn a person around and come, we will also refund the fine money,” said L. Bažys.

He said the inspections should not affect train schedules.

According to L. Baužis, the temperature of passengers on trains is regularly monitored, as well as whether masks are worn.

“What our teams do is leave if you always ask and remember that you must put the incomplete cover of the nose, not just the mouth. Even the passengers themselves encourage others to use the masks correctly, ”he said.

The strict movement control in Lithuania is valid until April 6. Traveling to other municipalities is possible by:

  • to the municipality of your place of residence;
  • when you go to a property that is not owned by the municipality of your place of residence;
  • work (in labor matters) when the workplace is in another municipality;
  • to or from international passenger routes to or from airports, seaports, bus stations;
  • to a municipality other than that of your place of residence due to the death of close relatives;
  • about health services;
  • For other objectively justified reasons of urgency, it is unavoidable to go to a municipality other than the one of residence.
