After working hours, the Municipality of Vilnius aims to become a center of attraction for citizens. The premises on the 20th floor of the building are rented.
According to the mayor of the city, Vilnius residents should feel like hosts in the municipality, not guests.
“Public buildings are completely underutilized after business hours, although they are by nature owned by all citizens, created or maintained with taxes paid. The balcony on the 20th floor of the township offers stunning views of the city, I think everyone who They should have the opportunity to enter here, ”says Remigijus Šimašius, Mayor of Vilnius.
According to R. Šimašius, the idea of opening the municipality arose when considering the projects of humanization of the city: the aim is to make urban spaces more attractive for citizens, not exceptions and public buildings.
“We want to set an example. I believe that more public buildings could become meeting places for citizens, communities or people promoting various leisure activities after working hours, ”says R. Šimašius.
The municipality intends to announce a competition for the provision of premises in the near future. Tenants are expected to create a multi-activity conceptual interior. On the 20th floor of the municipality, the meetings could continue during the days, if necessary, and in the afternoons the space would become a cafeteria or club bar.
