– Tell us, what makes you interested in technology? Why did you choose such an area?
– Digital technologies are interesting because they don’t know to what extent they will rule the world in the future. It can be that great and for the good of humanity itself.
During my studies, it was difficult for me to imagine that artificial intelligence would defeat the world champions of Go and chess. This is now the case.
No one knows in which areas artificial intelligence will outperform the human mind. Where is the limit when civilization can make better decisions than artificial intelligence? When will the time come when Big Brother will make it impossible to get sick or commit a crime?
Digital technologies are interesting because they don’t know to what extent they will rule the world in the future.
– Do you think age influences the transition to a new field, recycling? Did you personally have a hard time learning?
– The ability of people to absorb knowledge is different. For over 20 years, I have been training budgeting staff to work with the new program, and from my experience, I conclude that capacity is also age dependent, which generally takes longer.
However, a poor and unmotivated young worker can absorb even more slowly than an experienced and motivated one, even if he is an old man. In the end, everyone learns, but the time spent on it can vary several times, and age is one of the factors.
In addition, it is one thing to master mechanically and another to apply creatively. Young people tend to be more creative, but inexperienced. If operating experience is important to the application of knowledge, Landsberg is rightly “more experienced” (smiling).

For me personally, learning was as difficult as 20 years ago, but it took much longer and the fatigue came faster. I think after learning, we quickly forget about learning difficulties, and it happens involuntarily, memory gets rid of unnecessary drag. Therefore, it is difficult to evaluate yourself.
And there is another nuance: the very slow uptake of knowledge makes forgetting processes begin to dominate over memorization, so that older people may not learn very complex things if they do not know how to learn.

– What specific area did you choose and why?
– I studied at BIT, including JAVA. Because its place in programming is similar to that of non-humanities math in schools, almost no one becomes a mathematician, but it is useful.
– What do you think is the most important thing when learning something new? Is it possible to do without IT in English or not? What character traits facilitate learning?
– You need to have the will, the time, the good teachers and the good textbooks. There is a lot of good material online now, you can learn on your own, but you won’t save time this way, and the abundance of information makes it easy to get sidetracked.
English is required for programming. However, it is not necessary to pay it perfectly if you do not work for an international firm. It is the language of programmers. The object, the names of the classes, the comments are written in English so that any other programmer can understand when they need to improve or correct the program. In some tasks, you don’t even need to create a large part, you need to be able to search online for those already created.
The same goes for troubleshooting. Someone has already solved it and has not been lazy to write about it. I don’t know if there are character traits that help or hinder learning. It is important to feel like it.
– What do you think prevents people from changing fields and learning something new?
– There is no need for some, everything is fine for them anyway. Others may want to, but fear uncertainty because they will never know how it will go and whether the future employer will trust you. For others, a favorite area is not financially attractive.
I know a programmer with a BA, interested in a story that his first employer taught him to program. If he had obtained the same or at least similar in his specialty, he would never have become a programmer.
– Don’t you think age is too important in the job market?
– As regards the labor markets of Lithuania and Germany, it is actually too much in Lithuania. In Germany, in many places, the characteristics of the subjects determine more than the age. But it still depends on the specialty.
There is a shortage of workers in various specialties in Germany. It is not difficult for a good specialist who speaks the local language to get a job, regardless of age. However, I don’t know if age affects wages.
When it comes to comparing the Lithuanian and German labor markets, age in Lithuania is certainly too important.
– What was the beginning of your job and how did you manage to work?
– The beginning was a job search. I really wanted to keep the Oracle Java Launch Certificate (it is considered prestigious) but unfortunately I couldn’t. I missed 5 correct answers, and because of that, in turn, I knew English; I never learned it, but only by reading special texts with Google translator, he learns a lot in himself.
I wanted to find an ergonomic workplace and a normal computer microclimate. Since my knowledge and experience had to be relevant to the employer, it took a while. At first, I did my work more slowly than I expected, but it was on a project where the deadlines weren’t very tight. After that I ran.
– How do those around you, friends, family react to the change in activity?
– You responded to the decision in good faith. As there have been similar changes in my life, they all ended up for the better. So it was this time. The most interesting reaction was that of one of the wife’s relatives. He also decided to become a programmer, completing courses in the same field.
– You say that now you are much happier – What do you like the most at this stage of life?
– The work environment is very good. I work at home half the time (for about half a year the work was only remote) and the working conditions are excellent: from an ergonomic workplace, such as individual chairs (!), Height adjustable tables, excellent lighting, lots of space , silence.
I cannot be disappointed with the excellent air quality, which is very important when working with a computer, and the microclimate of the equipment. Of course, the very nature of work also brings a lot of happiness: today we have to work on projects in a completely different field than before, which is very interesting, motivating and moving forward.
