The Prime Minister, who was vaccinated at the Antakalnis Polyclinic, said it was regrettable that there was a lack of confidence in this vaccine.
“I am very sorry that it happened that, for some reason, this vaccine lacked confidence. We see objectively from the vaccination data. I think that the decisions that have been made, that those who trust the decision of the European Medicines Agency of register all the vaccines currently in use in Lithuania, they will surely have the opportunity to be vaccinated, possibly and sooner, after the additional guarantees that were announced last Thursday. (…) I have no such doubts, I said I am confident, ”said the Prime Minister I. Šimonytė.
He said he would have waited his turn, but a different decision was made.
“After the tensions of last week, we made such a decision that it would be valuable, apparently to dispel doubts, some beliefs that managers could stick with a ‘tastier’ vaccine. That’s why we do it today, “he said.
The head of government reiterated that the decision to suspend vaccination with AstraZeneca, even for a few days, was not a good solution under the circumstances.
“As it was only two days, and a few days before we saw that these doubts affect the importance of vaccination, I think it is better to lose 2 days than to rely on the vaccine in general. I had no doubt that the decision of the European Medicines Agency would dispel doubts, as it was. Now, along the way, we had to make several logistical decisions that will speed up vaccination, ”said I. Šimonytė.
“So far, I think based on the amount of supplies we have, it’s not as big as we would like. … Yes, we should have more Pfizer / BionTech vaccines in the second quarter. So far, we only have reliable data. about the April supply. Whether the remaining quantity arrives steadily in May, June or the end of June, which will really make it difficult to vaccinate in the middle of the summer for logistical reasons. (…) I would very much like the common interest here.
People are really tired, they want to get back to normal life and there is probably no other way. Science offers no other way. We will do our best to vaccinate the Lithuanian people with what we have as soon as possible. And how many of those quantities will depend not on Lithuania, but on coordinated actions by producers and the EU to put pressure on producers to ensure that supplies are fast and sufficient, ”said the Prime Minister.
I. Šimonytė was asked that perhaps people should not be given false hope when it comes to obtaining public immunity in July, and she generally answered “maybe.”
The Prime Minister has not yet been able to promise how the quarantine requirements can be changed in the near future.
“I will definitely not comment on the openings and other issues, it will be possible to comment more on them on Wednesday. Next week, the government will have to consider in any case under what regime, with what requirements to extend the quarantine order for April. discussion will probably not be that simple: the situation has not really improved in any way.
Last week’s assessments reaffirmed that in some parts of Lithuania we have a more pronounced British tension, which is spreading rapidly. (…) Carefully evaluating all these conditions, we will make decisions along the way, but today I do not want or cannot share any promise ”, the Head of Government spoke about possible changes in quarantine on Monday.
Delphi recalls that on Monday, to dispel the myths about this vaccine, President Gitanas Nausėda had already been vaccinated, as were Seimas spokesperson Viktorija Čmilytė – Nielsen and Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys.
In Lithuania and the European Union, vaccination with AstraZeneca was temporarily suspended last week due to established cases of thromboembolism in vaccinated people.
On Thursday, the European Medicines Agency announced that this vaccine against COVID-19 is safe and effective, so vaccination with this vaccine has been renewed in Lithuania.
In order to show confidence in the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford, an order from the Minister of Health entered into force on Monday, placing the President, members of the Seimas and the Government on the priority list of people to vaccinate.
