“Under the industrial-pilot phase program, the first power unit was disconnected from the grid for routine testing and maintenance,” the report read.
Thus, Astrava’s first power unit was in operation for less than two weeks: on March 14 it was connected to the country’s power system, after the previous regular disconnection on March 10. Before that, the reactor was closed from February 20 to March 8.
Earlier, the Belarusian Ministry of Energy announced that, under the pilot phase program of industrial exploitation, the first reactor will be tested in stationary and dynamic mode before April 5, at various power levels, including its reduction to zero.
The first reactor at the Astrava nuclear power plant was put into operation on August 20 last year, its industrial testing phase began on December 22 and became fully operational on January 12.
The first nuclear power plant in Belarus to be built near the Lithuanian state will have two reactors from the Russian VVER project of equal power, almost 1.2 gigawatts each.
The second reactor is scheduled to come online in the first half of 2022.
