“The main concern of the municipality is the Antakalnis Clinical Hospital, which has 116 COVID-19 beds and currently serves 88 patients.
We consult with Santara on a daily basis on how to best manage this process. Almost daily, infrastructure is improved and additional oxygen supply points are introduced. The second building in the hospital is also planned to open soon (…) We are also ready to reserve about 50 beds in Antakalnis 57, which we could open if necessary. Today we see that the need grows every day, ”said P. Poderskis.
P. Poderskis made no secret that the Vilnius municipality receives little help from regional hospitals.
The director of the administration also affirmed that the state funding did not reach the Antakalnis Hospital and that the entire COVID-19 infrastructure is being provided by the municipality.
It is currently considering expanding the infrastructure and installing a hundred beds in the polyclinic building of the Antakalnis Clinical Hospital.
“If the number of illnesses increases, it will really make sense and we will be able to do it without large capital investments in certain departments of that polyclinic,” he said.
According to P. Poderskis, a temporary hospital is planned at the Litexpo exhibition center. According to him, the preparatory work can take up to 6 weeks.
“Since the events don’t take place, they will have three empty rooms. (…) You have to remove oxygen systems, transport and buy beds, organize staff. The issue of personnel is the most delicate, “he said.
“About 70 percent. The need for doctors could be met. There is a disagreement among doctors about whether family doctors could treat coronavirus. We think so (…) In some hospitals, when they become hospitals who treat COVID-19, doctors take leave and refuse to work, that is a problem, it is a national problem, ”he said.
Mr. Podersky noted that the issue of the fever clinic is also being considered.
“Its functions are now carried out by all the personal health institutions that have installed fever rooms and provide services there. We counted and thought of a place where we could refer all those patients. Perhaps it could be the same Litexpo, where the process It could be organized without a problem, but it would be a bit more expensive, “Podersky said.
The managing director also said there are places for the new hospitals, but it is not yet known where so many staff will be needed. According to him, the 500-seat hospital would need about 150 doctors and 250 nurses and assistants.
So far, according to P. Podersky, it is not yet foreseen when a temporary hospital will be needed.
