Armonaitė – on the restriction of bars in Vilnius: it is not necessary to cross the whole country with a whip

“By the way, I think that the Vilnius city municipality is doing a lot of work that other institutions should do,” said A. Armonaitė.

She does not support proposals to limit the opening hours of entertainment venues in the city in case of the spread of the virus.

“When there is a case or many cases in a cafe, that does not mean that you have to cross a whip across the country. There are good practices abroad when, for example, discos, bars, people register. Why can’t we register in Lithuania? Is there really a need to reduce working hours and thus reduce jobs? There are security measures, disinfection. If an incident occurs in one bar, will it really happen in another bar as well? Not necessarily, “said A. Armonaitė.

The politician also lacks open data that allow a better analysis of the situation regarding the spread of the coronavirus.

“We need open data, not only on cases, but also on age, asymptomatic cases, local places. We need more data. They are, but they are probably inaccessible,” said A. Armonaitė.

NVSC proposed to Vilnius to introduce measures to limit the spread of the infection

As already announced, 111 cases of coronavirus were detected in Vilnius on Wednesday. The National Public Health Center (NVSC), taking into account the unfavorable epidemiological situation due to the spread of the coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Vilnius, asked the municipality to take measures to improve the management of this infection.

NVSC in Vilnius recommends temporarily restricting active leisure activities indoors, when the use of respiratory protective equipment, such as group sports training, dancing, singing studies, as well as shortening the working hours of bars cannot be guaranteed , according to a press release.

According to Rolanda Lingienė, head of the Vilnius department at NVSC, the trends in recent days are forcing us to take action to stop the infection. Therefore, the temporary abandonment of those activities that currently present a greater epidemiological risk is proposed.

“The proposed measures are really soft, in our opinion, they should already be applied here and now, so that no further restrictions are needed later. And they are proposed taking into account the statistics and figures available, as well as the epidemiological links between the identified cases. We recorded outbreaks related to sports clubs, dance studios, hockey, they have spread to institutions, companies, organizations, schools. We have cases related to visits to bars, where these cases are like a spark that ignites outbreaks in the workplace or education. In our opinion, we simply cannot afford that ‘luxury’ right now, “says R. Lingienė.

The NVSC had issued general recommendations to the providers of such services only after consulting with public health professionals and taking maximum measures to prevent infection control. If this cannot be guaranteed, discontinue services. However, this did not produce the desired results: the cases in question continue to be recorded. In addition, for example, she approached one of the dance studios with a suspension call, but she ignored such recommendations.

The Minister expects the municipality to take action

The Minister of Health, Aurelijus Veryga, hopes that the capital will continue to listen to the recommendations made to the decision makers of the city.

I hope you will listen, because I think everyone is interested, including Vilnius and the city authorities are not enemies of their people, and they must understand that without any measures, without handling the situation, the medical institution will move, and then the city will have other problems. as Raseiniai had.

Then you need to think about what to do with the patients. It is an option to bring several dozen patients from Vilnius to Raseiniai, but it will not be an option to bring several thousand patients from Vilnius to Raseiniai. The city must understand that, it must be managed, ”said A. Veryga.

The minister first recommends that the city activate the tests, observe certain specific places and their employees.

“So if you don’t want any more public measures, you should at least apply in the most difficult places. The city should already assess what is happening in the medical institutions, the nursing homes or the really good infection control there, so that there are no situations like in Blinstrubiškės or other places where there are already deaths, because people are the most vulnerable there. ” Mrs Veryga said.
