According to experts, new diseases are growing like yeast, there are still no preconditions to improve the situation.
“This week we have almost 18 thousand cases, so before the end of the last day of the week, 20% growth compared to the previous week, that growth was previously 12 and 6.5 percent, which which means that a doubling of the growth of cases was observed for a couple of weeks. This is an acceleration of the pandemic, “said data analyst Aistis Šimaitis during the government meeting on Sunday night.
The fact that anti-registrations will continue to be recorded was only confirmed on Monday by Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys:
“Unfortunately, those figures only show once again that this government has to make difficult and unpopular decisions, because this week’s figures are record-breaking: Monday is a record compared to every Monday. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, all the world was the same. “
There is a rapid growth of cases in all municipalities
According to A. Šimaiitis, judging last week, it was a record all day.
“If we compare it with these data, the growth could even triple compared to last week. This is a very serious situation in terms of cases. And what does it mean that the 7-day Lithuanian average exceeds 2600 cases per 100 thousand Does the population continue to grow rapidly?
The fact that there is currently no county in Lithuania where the number of cases decreases. Not only is there no county, in fact it is quite difficult to find a municipality that does not have growth in the dynamics of cases, “he explained.
The number of positive tests multiplied by 25
Another important evaluation criterion is the percentage of positive cases investigated. The specialist pointed out that currently in Lithuania this indicator reaches 21.8.
“By way of comparison, in September, barely the start of the wave was registered, this indicator did not reach 1 percent. So we have 25 times the difference and the growth. Also, the numbers we see for newly identified cases do not reflect the actual situation, as that number should be multiplied by a certain denominator, like 3,000. certainly not as many as the cases we have identified.
And another indicator that I would point out is that if a person signs up today with a mobile point to test for Covid-19 symptoms, then more than half of those cases are detected by Covid-19. Which means that today it is the predominant infection that causes cold-like symptoms such as loss of taste, smell, fever. So chances are, if you have these symptoms, you most likely have Covid-19, “explained A. Šimaitis.
Hospitals are filling up fast
The expert stressed that all this has a significant impact on the situation of hospitals.
“Proportionally, in the case of ‘shooting’ upwards, the same happens with hospitalizations and hospital filling. If the number of people hospitalized in September was less than 100, now there are more than 2,200.
The number of critically ill patients treated in resuscitation is also monitored. Yesterday (Saturday – Aut. Past). Again we had a record and recorded 18 percent. growth of these patients. And when hospitals are full, scheduled services are closed, ”he said.
For his part, A. Dulkys reported that Covid-19 patients will need at least another 500 places to be treated in hospitals in the near future.
“In the near future, according to the dynamics, it will be necessary to think of at least 500 beds, but behind them is our medical community, specialists,” said A. Dulkys.
According to him, additional capacity will be sought in hospitals.
The death toll is increasing
Commenting on the death statistics, A. Šimaitis emphasized that the sad situation is observed again here: deaths are growing very fast, there was a record week of deaths.
“The lowest mortality rate from Covid-19, if a person is infected, is around 1%, calculated according to the corresponding methodology. But when you get to the hospital, that chance may be 11 percent. and more. But these are the deaths that we see when a person is taken to the hospital after being diagnosed with Covid-19, ”said the specialist.
At the same time, however, he drew attention to another death statistic, the excess of deaths, that is, the excess of deaths compared to the number of deaths in the respective weeks according to long-term data.
“Based on preliminary death certificate data, it appears that last week will not look any better. And all of the aforementioned figures paint a very sad picture of the pandemic and there are no obvious preconditions as to why it should suddenly retire,” said A. Šimaitis.
Professor and family doctor Vytautas Kasiulevičius stated that currently 30 Lithuanian citizens die every day due to the infection, as well as every 10th Covid-19 patient who is admitted to hospital.
“Such a contagious disease has been so widespread in Lithuania for a long time. We probably do not remember any case in our lives where we had an infectious disease that caused so many deaths,” he said.
The portal tv3.lt recalls that on Sunday night the Government unanimously approved the new restrictions, which will take effect as soon as Tuesday night ends and begins on Wednesday. The government has clarified decisions on quarantine restrictions
The government meeting at a meeting on Monday clarified some decisions on stricter quarantine conditions.
The exceptions to the restrictions on movement between municipalities include all health care services: not only will essential medical assistance be available, but also planned.
A provision has also been introduced that will allow officials to assess whether the reason given by residents for the trip is serious enough, even if it does not meet the conditions set out in the Government Resolution.
“There is an evaluative provision in which it would allow the official to evaluate, if there is a situation in which a person is suspended, if it really is some special circumstance that he must go to another municipality,” Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė said at the meeting . .
In addition, as there are no restrictions on traveling abroad, movement between municipalities is allowed in the case of traveling to the airport.
It has been clarified that no more than two people or people from the same family may meet outdoors in the open air.
The decision on emergency work includes a provision that it is mandatory to ensure emergency functions, which will allow notaries, bailiffs and other necessary legal services to function.
The government has also decided to expand the required area per customer from 10 square meters to 15 square meters.
“Yesterday the resolution was reduced to ten, but still the people of the Ministry of Health say that it is necessary to maintain the epidemiological situation from what it is now, that is, fifteen,” said I. Šimonytė.
The government also clarified that beauty services and other services that require more than 15 minutes of contact between the customer and the service provider cannot be provided. Exceptions apply to medical, psychological, rehabilitation, attorney services, as well as when a mobile signature is required.
The government has also relaxed the provision of accommodation services, allowing them to be provided to people from a single household. The decision made on Sunday restricted the provision of accommodation services to self-isolation only. According to I. Šimonytė, this decision was made after assessing that accommodation services are still relevant for people working in other municipalities and foreigners.
Also at Monday’s meeting, Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys presented a proposal for the extension of the quarantine. The prime minister acknowledged that on Sunday the government’s decision was taken without following the procedures that make this provision mandatory.
The government decided on Sunday to extend and tighten the quarantine. Most stores, with the exception of grocery stores and pharmacies, will be closed starting Wednesday, preventing people from leaving home without good reason.
Residents of a house will be allowed to walk in open areas within the municipality without meeting other people.
