Former Lithuanian midfielder Antanas Kavaliauskas is turning a new career page.
The prestigious Wake Forest University, which competes in the NCAA Championship, announced that the 35-year-old Lithuanian will take over as director of basketball development and education for the team.
Along with the Lithuanian, Joe Hugley joined the team and will assume the role of Director of Player Relations.
“Having two former players in my coaching staff is one of the best moments of my career. Both men are senior professionals and will play a key role in the team’s future, “said Wake Forest head coach Steve Forbes.
“Antanas will be a superstar in our business. I attracted him to the Texas team 15 years ago. His career in college and professional basketball will allow us to be a great role model and student to our students. Thanks to his hard work and determination, Antanas twice defended the honor of the Lithuanian national team at the Olympics, in which he played with former Wake Forest star Darius Songaila, ”added Forbes.
Kavaliauskas ended his career as a professional basketball player in July last year. During his career, he won a silver medal at the 2015 European Championship, and with Kaunas “Žalgiris” he became the LKL champion three times.
Players like Chris Paul, Tim Duncan and Muggsy Bogues played at Wake Forest College.
