The cooperation between Kaunas Žalgiris and FK Vytis started in October last year, when the representatives of the clubs signed an agreement and the Kaunas Hall football club established in 2013 became part of the green-white family.
It is true that until now the name of the team has not been changed, because due to UEFA requirements, the team had to participate in the Futsal Champions League with the name under which it won the national championship. This year, for the second time in the club’s history, Kaunas residents are among the top 16 European teams.
After leaving the international tournament, club director Darius Gurskis submitted a request to the Emergency Committee of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) for the name of “FK Vytis” to be changed to “Žalgiris”. During the meeting, the request was granted on Thursday.
The team led by Ukrainian Kirill Krasii is currently losing in the Lithuanian Championship: in 15 matches, Kaunas has won 14 victories and once in a draw. The team currently shares 1-2 spots with Jonava Vikings, but has two matches in reserve. At the end of the regular season, there were only three games left to play.
“By combining the strength of the Žalgiris organization and the achievements of FK Vytis in futsal, we are ready to fight for even greater things. The whole club has a great pyramid, and we welcome this new stage with the aim of connecting an even higher gear. The Futsal World Championship will take place in Lithuania, so in the context of all these events, we want our name to be even better known throughout Europe, ”said the team leader, who occupies 13th position in the UEFA club ranking. .
