The increase in mortality is alarming
The population of 37 social care institutions has died from coronavirus in the country so far, most of these cases were registered in October and November, reported the National Center for Public Health (NVSC). There were 13 deaths in October and 14 in November, the remaining 10 people died in May and June.
According to NVSC data, the highest number of deaths (13) are related to the Blinstrubiškės welfare home in Raseiniai district, and ten deaths are related to the Marijampolė special care home.
Blinstrubiškės welfare home is one of the largest pockets of coronavirus, still rotting.
Among others, 23 hospitalized patients died in nursing and supportive care hospitals, as well as in hospital nursing units.
The government’s COVID-19 steering committee plans to discuss the increase in mortality on Monday, Acting Health Minister Aurelius Veryga said on Friday.
“Unfortunately, for several weeks we have been seeing the increasing mortality that is really going off the average, and currently the Institute of Hygiene has received orders, a detailed analysis is being carried out,” said A. Veryga at the press conference.
According to him, it is not only about deaths from coronavirus infection, but also from other diseases.
“These are not just deaths from COVID-19, but also deaths from cardiovascular diseases and other causes,” the minister said.
According to him, the measures that will be taken in response to this situation will become clear after hearing the information from the specialists’ analysis.

In the Kaunas region, according to data from Thursday, 350 out of 440 beds for COVID-19 patients and 33 out of 50 resuscitation beds were occupied.
163 patients treated at the Kaunas Clinics of the Lithuanian Health Sciences University (LSMU) and at the Marijampolė and Jurbarkas hospitals, the COVID-19 patients were treated with several more than their beds.
Marijampolė and Kėdainiai hospitals occupy all resuscitation beds for COVID-19 patients, four and two, respectively.
“The number of patients with COVID-19 in the region has been increasing in recent days. In addition, some of those treated in resuscitation and intensive care units have artificial lung ventilation. Doctors in the Kaunas region are working hard to ensure care for COVID-19 patients while preserving the provision of scheduled services to patients arriving at the hospital due to other health problems, ”says Prof. habil . Dr. Renaldas Jurkevičius.
However, according to him, hospitals must reduce the scope of scheduled services.
