An official reprimand was issued to R. Petraitis for the poorly coordinated and organized work of the NVSC.

The conclusion indicates that due to the inaction of the owner of the NVSC, “the necessary data are not properly processed, systematized and delivered to other institutions, which provides grounds to affirm that there is a real threat to the health of the entire population of the country “.

It also states that “the NVSC did not ensure compliance with the established obligations related to the handling of information on communicable diseases, the investigation of outbreaks and the provision of information to other Lithuanian and European institutions.”

As the National Center for Public Health reported to BNS, “the director received the findings only today, a while ago, so he is not yet fully familiar with the findings.”

“We will be able to provide your evaluations when you have done so in full,” said the comment sent to BNS.

R. Petraitis can appeal the findings of the official inspection to the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court within one month.

It was decided to open an official inspection in mid-January for a possible breach of duty, following the suggestions of experts from the Ministry of Health following the written explanations of the head of the NVSC about unaccounted deaths related to the coronavirus.

Previously, Minister R. Petraitis asked him to resign, but he did not agree.

NVSC’s management was criticized earlier this year for more than 1,000 unaccounted for coronavirus-related deaths. R. Petraitis later stated that the situation is not due to the institution’s fault, but to the lack of timely information provided by the hospitals.

The performance of the service will be evaluated by the commission.

Among other things, the head of the NVSC received an unfavorable annual assessment in mid-February, prompting the decision to fire him.

The head of the institution did not agree with the conclusions of the evaluation.

As reported by the Ministry to the BNS, last week R. Petraitis received a request “on the evaluation of official activities in the Commission for the Evaluation of Official Activities of Public Officials.”

This request was sent to the Performance Evaluation Commission on Monday.

“In accordance with the procedure established by the legal acts, the request of a public official must be examined within 10 business days following the presentation of the request to the Commission. The Commission will present its findings immediately after the Commission meeting. We note that the final decision on the evaluation of R. Petraitis’ activities will be made by the person taking office – the Minister of Health, ”said the Minister’s spokesperson, Aistė Šuksta.

Following the announcement of the findings in mid-February, R. Petraitis himself said that it was a political decision.

15 minutes recalls that it was decided to open an official inspection in mid-January for a possible breach of duty, following the suggestions of the experts of the Ministry of Health after the written explanations of the head of the NVSC about the deaths from coronavirus not counted.
