During the meeting, A. Dulkys and the president discussed the coronavirus vaccination strategy, the preparation of a pandemic management plan, and the strengthening of pandemic management capacities and hospital operations.
“In the opinion of the President, it is positive that a more detailed order of vaccination sequence is planned to be revealed. It is important to reveal the additional number of people in each group. The positive news is that there is more clarity on the supply of the first Pfizer vaccine, BioNtech for the first quarter of this year, “said Simonas Krėpšta, senior adviser to the president and head of the Economic and Social Policy Group, after the meeting.
According to him, there was talk of hospitals and medical institutions and the need to strengthen them. Hospitals, as the presidential adviser pointed out, are under a very heavy burden. “It is necessary to strengthen the capacity of hospitals in various directions, as well as to prevent an excessive number of deaths from other diseases,” said S. Krėpšta.
Quarantine restrictions are appropriate
According to the representative of the Presidency, G. Nausėda welcomes the existing quarantine restrictions and does not intend to tighten them. However, according to S. Krėpšta, the head of state emphasizes that it is necessary to constantly monitor epidemiological indicators and, based on them, decide whether the quarantine regime should be strengthened or not.
“In the opinion of the President, they are adequate. They are tough, but the situation, in the sense of a pandemic, is bad in Lithuania,” said S. Krėpšta.
A clear vaccination strategy is essential
A representative of the presidency shared a positive message. According to him, it is already clear the supply of the vaccine to Pfizer and BioNtech each week.
According to the president, the vaccination strategy and plan must be presented to the public and detailed. That is what the Minister plans to do, and it is positive. It is very important to have a clear and sufficiently detailed vaccination schedule, it is necessary to know how many people are placed on that schedule. “At the moment, the Minister reported that there is clarity about the supply of the first Pfizer vaccine, BioNtech, every week after a specific dose of vaccines until the end of the first quarter,” explained S. Krėpšta.
S. Krėpšta assured that during the meeting the issue of vaccination of small hospitals and their employees was also discussed. He stressed the need to avoid situations where someone is not vaccinated in the prescribed order.
“When it comes to small hospitals, yes, there has been talk. This is an integral part of the vaccination strategy and plan. It has been said that transparency, ranking and open information on how many vaccines we have are very important. It is also very important to implement it correctly. This, of course, requires a certain centralized information accounting system, ”explained the advisor.
The first vaccinated doctors working with COVID-19 patients in Lithuania. Earlier it was announced that increased vaccination is planned for all hospital staff, as well as ambulance personnel and high-risk patients. Subsequently, it is planned to vaccinate doctors working in mobile points, fever clinics, residents and employees of nursing and assistance institutions.
It is unlikely that vaccination of the world population will begin in the first quarter of this year.
The plan will be presented in parts
“There was talk of the need for a joint COVID-19 pandemic management plan and the need to make that plan available to the public. According to the president, such a presentation of a plan at the strategic level is important because it would provide clarity to the public. , to the business community and institutions managing the pandemic: what are the strategic objectives, in which directions to focus and when are they planned to be achieved, ”said S. Krėpšta.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health assured that the plan will be presented in installments, starting with the vaccination strategy.
“The Advisory Council of Experts has decided that since the situation in the country is constantly changing and the main objective of the plan is to manage the pandemic before the vaccine reaches Lithuania and beyond, the Council of Experts suggested that we divide the plan in separate parts and we publish it accordingly. separate parts of the plan, “detailed A. Dulkys.
The vaccination portion of the plan will be presented on Tuesday.
Facilitates the work of the medical community
“By understanding the medical staff shortage, we legitimize the possibility of treating COVID-19 patients with a broader range of physicians. Also, from now on, a broader circle of professionals may be nursing assistants, which is very important. Another very important decision was that we allow doctors to shorten the isolation period, ”the minister explained.
A. Dulkys explained that from now on it is allowed to prescribe beds for the treatment of patients with coronavirus in rehabilitation hospitals, when they no longer need oxygen therapy. Such a solution will open another 900 beds.
