After the death of a famous businessman from Panevėžys by COVID-19, the painful circumstances become clear: extreme measures must be taken

“A hundred times I said: Echoes, go and get vaccinated. I can not hear myself. His decision was not to vaccinate, ”says Arūnas, who is experiencing a loss.

The Panevėžys vaccination center on Laisvės square has been half empty for some time. This month, vaccinate as much as you did on a day in early spring. Instead, the mobile point is hot due to the influx of tests to unvaccinated people.

Extreme treatment did not save

Today, relatives and acquaintances say goodbye to Aidas Nauronis, director of the Deliuvis company.

The life of a 53-year-old man with COVID-19 passed away on September 19 in the Intensive Care and Resuscitation Department of the Vilnius Santara Clinics.

Arūnas says that his brother felt the first signs of the disease about a month ago. The rapid test showed a treacherous disease and the diagnosis was confirmed by a PCR test.

At a temperature of about 40 degrees and even without the medications bringing it down, the called ambulance took Aida to the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the Republican Panevėžys Hospital. As his condition worsened in his eyes, the man was taken to Republican Hospital for resuscitation. According to Arūnas, his brother stayed there for only a week. Doctors fighting for the life of Panevėžys used the last drop: the patient in an already critical condition was transported to the Santara resuscitation clinics, where in such cases an extreme treatment method is used: the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation system (EKMO) is connected to save life. Blood returns to the patient’s bloodstream.

The patient’s own lungs were no longer working at all.

The three-week fight for the life of a Panevėžys resident ended in defeat. Delta variant of COVID
had already severely damaged the lungs, it was no longer possible to restore their function.

“The brother’s decision not to vaccinate ended tragically,” says Arūnas.

He himself says he was in a rush to get vaccinated as soon as the opportunity arose. When the vaccination of his age group was announced, Arūnas went to Vilnius especially as he would still have to wait for the vaccination in Panevėžys.

“I said, Echoes, go and get vaccinated. I can not hear myself. His decision was not to vaccinate. The brother was convinced that if he got sick, it would be an easy way and he would get sick like many. But it happened differently, “said Arūnas.

Healthy person without comorbidities

Echo trusted his body: he was a strong, healthy man with no comorbidities. According to Arūnas, even the doctors themselves were surprised that the 53-year-old did not have any diseases.

“But COVID also affects those who do not suffer from diseases, and even die. Those who oppose vaccines motivate that this is their choice. And I suggest: when you return home, look your children, your mothers in the eye and think in what awaits them, if they won’t be there in a week, ”says Arūnas, who has lost his brother.

The relatives of the deceased saw how much effort the doctors made to remove A. Nauronis from the clutches of death.

“We express our sincere thanks to the doctors at Panevėžys Republican Hospital, its Infectious Disease Clinic, as well as the Santara Clinics for their efforts to save Aido’s life. They did their best, but the terrible and insidious disease was stronger. than the efforts of doctors, ”says Arūnas.

Having lost his brother, a businessman who reads reports that several people die from the virus in Lithuania every day says that he cannot find any rational explanation for why vaccination is avoided even in such a confrontation. .

“Someone eats bee tar, sees some conspiracy theories. Echo probably found like-minded people. They live, Aidas is already in the coffin,” sighs A. Nauronis.

Progress in an instant

Eugenijus Preidis, director of the Panevėžys Hospital Infectious Disease Clinic, who meets COVID patients at work every day, emphasizes that this new disease is so insidious that doctors cannot even answer how the patient’s condition will change in just one hour.

“At best, I can make a forecast for an hour, maybe two. This disease is so threatening that it begins to progress abruptly: if the patient’s condition remains stable at 12 o’clock, they may be in resuscitation at 2 o’clock, ”says E. Preidis.

According to the doctor, the appearance of headaches, muscle aches, bone fractures, fever, cough, the disease can rapidly progress to a stage when lung activity begins and stormy respiratory failure begins.

COVID also causes clotting problems: thrombosis, kidney damage, and intestinal damage.

Although, according to E. Preidis, the disease is more dangerous for the elderly, who also have other pathologies, the rampant delta strain of COVID does not choose age. Recently, a Panevėžys resident under the age of 40 died of coronavirus.

“The course of the disease is highly dependent on the body’s immune system. We doctors see how seriously people get sick, so I highly recommend vaccines. I am not saying that the vaccine completely protects against infection.

But we see those who have not been vaccinated die. There have been isolated cases where people have died from vaccination, but have had other terrible diseases: lung cancer, advanced stomach cancer. In summary, only 5 out of every 100 deaths were vaccinated, but they also had severe comorbidities ”, calculates the doctor.

According to E. Preidis, doctors often have to listen to the bites of seriously unvaccinated patients due to a mistake: the free vaccine was rejected.

“Such a disaster really leads to the vaccination of loved ones. The death of a loved one taught another loved one. It is scary, but it is,” says the director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic.

Seniors will receive a call

According to Karolis Valantinas, director of the Panevėžys Municipal Polyclinic, 1000 people have been vaccinated in the capital of Aukštaitija for a whole month a week. In March, during the peak of vaccination, the vaccination center vaccinated so much per day. However, Panevėžys remains a leader among the major cities in the country in terms of vaccination rates.

K. Valantinas had the expectation that after the vaccination on September 13, downtown Freedom Square would be full of people again. The government’s plans to make paid coronavirus tests available to unvaccinated workers raised the hopes of doctors.

“But a few days before that date, when the government changed its mind, antigen tests were free, leaving no incentive to go vaccinate. Instead, our moving point now cuts through all seams. If an employee of a manufacturing company wants to take a test, they must wait a few days in a row. I hope that in October the tests will be paid and the flow of people will reappear at the vaccination center, ”said the head of the polyclinic.

Already next week, Panevėžys residents over 75 will receive a special personal invitation to get vaccinated.

According to K. Valantinas, around 80 thousand people have not been vaccinated in all of Lithuania. people of that age.

The Health Ministry consulted with municipalities this week on how to persuade them to decide to get vaccinated.

The Panevėžys polyclinic plans to call unvaccinated older people from Monday and, if they can persuade them, they will even go home to get vaccinated.

“We will repeat what happened in January-February, when we called the elderly and invited ourselves to get vaccinated. For those who did not want to then, now we will try to show that it is worth vaccinating,” says the director of the polyclinic.

League of Horrors

According to K. Valantinas, 80-90% of COVID patients in hospitals put on makeup without vaccinating. The director of the polyclinic agrees that getting vaccinated can make you sick, but according to him, such a patient is 20 times more likely to not need a hospital.

“It just came to our notice then. We all swim while taking a sip or gagging while eating. Those few seconds when you can’t include air is heavy, and imagine a person who is constantly tormented by this condition for weeks. Never. I address conspiracy theorists and charlatans. I believe what science says, in this case the World Health Organization, the European Medicines Agency. The number of vaccinated and unvaccinated deaths speaks for itself. vaccines, it is stupid not to take advantage of this opportunity to survive ”, compared K. Valantinas.
