The day of the accident was not remembered
A. Jasikonis vaguely remembers the fateful day, so he cannot say exactly what happened during the accident. You can only judge the mistakes you have made from a video in which you see Armin swinging forward and collapsing down the diving board.
“I vaguely remember the week before the accident, in certain passages. If I were very focused, I could remember one day, he admits.” But how things looked on the day of the accident, I know. “I saw the video. There you can see that I didn’t make any big mistakes, it just came out that way. Another springboard that started immediately contributed to the translation. “
Upon learning that there was a video showing the collapse, Armin immediately wanted to see it. The athlete assures him without fear of seeing his own accident.
“The first day or two, while I was still in the hospital, I wrote to the boss asking if there was a video. He asked me if I really wanted to see it. I had no trouble seeing every day. The fall, like the fall, happened that I fell from the blow that hit me off“Says A. Jasikonis.

When Armin was taken to hospital, doctors, who did not want to allow his brain to swell, put the athlete into an artificial coma in which he remained for three days. Although A. Jasikonis was thought to wake up a few days later, his body showed such a great desire to live that he began to wake up earlier.
“At first it was a shock because the last image my brain remembers was on the track and then, without realizing anything, I woke up in the hospital. I know when I woke up I was trying to get out of bed, I thought I needed to get out of the hospital. The doctors ran away quickly, lay down, later, so that I could not move too much, they tied my hands a little. I had to tell myself what happened because I didn’t know why I ended up in the hospital, but eventually I understood everything, ”says Armin.

Heals incredibly fast
A. Jasikonis never asked his relatives what the doctors predicted after seeing his condition. However, according to Armin, when injuries are extremely severe, doctors can rarely say exactly what the chances of recovery are.
“There is a 50/50 chance that the condition will change: it is not clear if he woke up from the coma, and maybe when he wakes up he will not understand anything, he will not be able to talk or walk. The doctors themselves do not know. Even now that I am rehabilitating, they do not know when I will recover completely. Everything goes little by little, step by step. They never promise to say that, for example, in 3 months everything will be fine “, explains A. Jasikonis.

According to Armin, waking up from a coma was influenced by his improved health and his great desire to live. According to him, Lithuanian doctors are currently very happy with the progress made.
“They say you won’t see cases like mine every day. I was already walking, talking after two weeks, and usually after suffering such an injury, others spend a lot of time in bed. I really recovered quickly enough and efficiently. Of course, the point is that I am an athlete, I was in good shape, physically strong before the injury. Being an athlete has helped me a lot in this situation “, says A. Jasikonis.
He was concerned about a return to professional sports.
Armin says that waking up from a coma took a long time to realize what had happened. At the time, he did not realize the serious trauma he had suffered, but today he is already appreciating what he has had and is happy to be alive.
“I woke up in the hospital, nothing hurt me or anything … I will probably never fully understand what happened. I am a person who just woke up from his dream. Other people had to survive everything, they understood what had happened. And I just to wake up, “says A. Jasikonis.

In the first weeks, Armin had memory and vision problems, the consequences of a natural trauma that he still feels a little bit today. However, A. Jasikonis calmly reacted to this, believing that such disorders did not prevent him from living.
“Vision is almost restored, about 10 percent missing. Short-term memory is a bit impaired, but it doesn’t bother me, I don’t work where I need to memorize a lot. It will still take time, not everything will work out in a couple of months Now I am constantly comparing how I felt before the trauma, it seems the body reacts differently, I get to know myself again ”, says Arminas.
A week later in hospital, A. Jasikonis returned to Lithuania, where he began rehabilitation. Although he originally intended to fly back, Armin had a broken wash, so for safety, the doctors advised him to drive.
“I’m still going to rehab for now, but I’m trying to get back to sports. I still haven’t fully recovered, I keep exercising, I train, I try to challenge my brain because everything I do is like new to them. Weird feeling It seems that you know how to perform certain actions, but the brain still accepts them in a slightly different way, ”says A. Jasikonis.
I try to challenge my brain because everything I do is new to them. Weird feeling.
As one of the biggest difficulties during recovery, Armin highlights damaged balance and feels anxious because he does nothing for days, is not used productively. However, the most important question was whether to return to professional sports.
“It was stressful, I was wondering if I would go out on a motorcycle. This is my life, I have been doing sports since I was a child, I make a living … If I had failed, I would have to start my life again, find another activity. But little by little, the moment came when I saw that a return was possible, ”recalls A. Jasikonis.
When anxious thoughts flow, Armin tries to be positive, not stress out, and train as much as he can. In small steps, patiently performing rehabilitation, today A. Jasikonis is much more courageous and confident to return to sport.
“It just came to our attention then. Every day I feel better, I have a lot of faith and I have a plan to go back to the world level. I am such a person: if I want something, I want to do it at a really high level,” says Armin.
After the accident, sitting on a motorcycle was not afraid.
During the difficult period, A. Jasikonis was very supported by his family members, but his desire to prove to himself and others that anything is possible also helped him to recover. He kept trying to focus on his recovery and didn’t think about the mistakes he made during the accident.
“You have to have a strong desire and work one hundred percent. Now that I’m training again, I know it is necessary to avoid those mistakes that I have made, but in this sport they happen,” says Armin.
The A.Jasikonis accident shows that even the slightest mistake can be fatal. He says he knew this from a young age when he started riding a motorcycle, as motocross is an extremely challenging sport.
“You drive at your best all the time, your heart rate is high, you feel the adrenaline, and not everything depends on you, because you compete with other athletes. If they make a wrong move, they could fall together. This is a serious, high-risk sport. I knew how dangerous it was, ”admits Armin.

While still in the hospital, A. Jasikonis gradually began to consider returning to sports, and his parents understood this wish; his father said that if Armin really wants to play sports again, he supports the decision. When he sat on a motorcycle for the first time after the injury, A. Jasikonis was not afraid but considered how to ride.
“Maybe the trauma didn’t affect me much … I’ve been running my whole life, so I didn’t see a reason why I couldn’t get back to sports. When I got on the motorcycle and started riding, I immediately realized I was doing quite well, ”Armin recalls.
Today, A. Jasikonis still cannot say exactly when his return is expected. Armin works every day and tries to move forward, so he is convinced that he must make a full recovery, and form may be even better than before the accident.
“We are not determined that I should participate in certain competitions. We do not know if it will take three months or maybe five. The team gives me time until now and I am very grateful that she understands the situation and protects me. There will come a day when the doctors They will say that I am ready and our goal is to improve every day, ”says A. Jasikonis.
