Giedrius J. experienced the first symptoms of the coronavirus: he lost his sense of smell and taste, on August 10.

Although his temperature did not rise, his wife, who worked at the hospital, consulted with the doctors and recommended that he have a test.

He was tested two days later and on August 13 he received a brief message with a positive diagnosis for COVID-19.

I went out to celebrate

The same day, he received a call from the National Public Health Center (NVSC).

“My wife and I were told to isolate ourselves, then I called the family doctor and told him the same thing,” Giedrius J told police.

On August 19, two NVSC employees came to see the sick man. They checked the man’s adherence to self-isolation and offered to help buy food.

A neighbor of Giedrius J., who saw specialists from NVSC, was also concerned about this visit.

“I immediately thought that those institutions are useless,” he later told law enforcement. – And he went out somewhere that night with his wife and came back to praise. It was only the next day that I learned through my acquaintances that Giedrius J. was sick with COVID-19 ”.

The woman said she soon saw a neighbor leave the house and soon return with a shopping cart.

He contacted the General Assistance Center and reported that a sick neighbor was walking through the city without a mask and contagious the virus.

A few hours later, the woman again saw Giedrius J. traveling to the mall, so she immediately informed officials.

I walked without a mask

Police officers who arrived soon saw Giedrius J. walking down the street without a mask.

“I asked him why he walks the streets without a mask and does not observe self-isolation,” the official said. – He told me that he went to buy food, also to repair the house on another street. The citizen was warned to be at home, but was in a troubled mood, responding that he would go where he had to be. “

The trapped man himself did not deny his guilt, but during questioning he stated that he had not gone to the store and that he had not walked anywhere until then.

“I had gone to the next street, I have a house where I keep my car. I went to pick up the documents. I didn’t wear a mask because the street was empty, ”the man exclaimed.

As the man was caught violating his self-isolation, he was prosecuted under article 277 of the Penal Code.

The man agreed not to resort to a long and complicated trial and to end the entire process with a criminal order.

He is deprived of liberty for six months – the man is obliged to work or at least register with the Employment Service during this period, as well as to be at home from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., if unrelated with work or other necessary matters.
