Arvydas says she went shopping in Poland before the pandemic. There, like most Lithuanians, he traveled with cheaper food, drinks, household appliances, gardening and gardening supplies, and his travel route used to be Kaunas – Suwalki or Kaunas – Augustow.

The man says the last such trip was last summer, in June, when, as now, there were only a few dozen cases of coronavirus, and the quarantine was more flexible.

However, after a one-year break, Arvydas decided to travel again and visited both Suwalki and Augustów last week, and before leaving he said that he had taken out his Green Passport and asked him about the number of illnesses and the requirements and rules to follow. followed nationally.

“No one registered us at the border, we went very calmly.

In Poland, as always, repairs are being carried out on the roads, so the conditions for Lithuanians to come are only improving. The trip went smoothly, we went as usual, as before the pandemic. Also in one of the exchange houses, we exchanged money and got a very good exchange rate – 1 euro – 4.5 zlotys, ”said the man.

Arvydas and his family said that they always visit both specialized commercial bases, where they can buy dairy, meat products or garden and garden products, as well as shopping centers, so this time this plan was also followed.

“We went on Saturday, but there were very few Lithuanians in Suwalki and Augustów. Previously, there were full parking lots in Suwalki near Kaufland, there was no place to park a car, but now the space was full, “he said.

When asked if he still thought people were afraid to leave, Arvydas said that, in his opinion, the pandemic had changed our way of thinking.

“We have become more sedentary,” he said.

True, prices in stores, according to the man, how much has changed. They grew up in both Lithuania and Poland, but their difference, which is saved by those who come there for purchases, remains the same.

“In Poland, it was between 20 and 30 percent cheaper. Of course, the difference depends on the product. Let’s say beer or wine is 40 percent. Cheaper. We also buy alcohol, from which we produce healthy solutions for the body with pine seedlings and the like, and there is no such in Lithuania Also cheaper and flowers, fresh strawberries.

A kilogram of strawberries costs 1.5 Eur / kg ”, he mentioned these and more price differences, and hinted at a slightly different situation when it comes to wearing masks in stores. According to him, although officially the procedure in Polish food stores is the same as in Lithuania, compliance with the rules is very different, because only a third of people were here wearing masks.

“We asked in the information if masks are needed, why do people not use them. The answer was:” We did not make it a tragedy and we did not look at it so strictly. “It was the same when we got to the cafe, nobody asked why we were without masks.

Here everything is seen with much more freedom, ”shared Arvydas.

Speaking of visiting the aforementioned bases in Augustow, where small business owners sell the most, Arvydas said he had received an unexpected welcome.

“We already knew one of the hosts before, when he saw us, he started hugging us, drinking coffee and sweets.

They are very happy that when the situation improved, the Lithuanians started to return to Poland. We were welcomed with open arms, ”said the man, saying that in the Suwalki market before the pandemic, the Poles had a good command of the Lithuanian language, but now they laugh that they have already forgotten it.

Arvydas said that he always calculates how much money he saves by buying cheaper food during those trips to Poland.

“There are things in which you save a lot, there are some less, but I calculate that if I do not save 100 Eur during the trip, it is not worth going there,” he said, assuring that he was finally happy. that the opportunity to leave the country had returned.

“It just came to our attention then.

The next trip is scheduled for September, of course, if all goes well, he said.
