On a sunny afternoon, President Valdas Adamkus walks alone in the backyard of his house in Turniškės. The president would love to take a walk with Mrs. Alma in good weather, but unfortunately his health still does not allow him to do so.

“She is not a bedridden patient. She gets up, tries to function normally every day, walks around the room, of course, rests a lot. She cannot go on air and, for example, today, in good weather, you could give a walk. I’m afraid you won’t be able to do this, “V. Adamkus told reporters in Turniškės on Wednesday.

V. Adamkus, who dreamed of walking in the courtyard with Alma, says that his health is improving after the stroke, but that the time he spent in the Birštonas sanatorium did not give the expected results.

“I would not say what a big change there is. The problem that you are trying to recover from after a previous stroke still exists. We hope to do everything we can to put it on its feet,” the president said.

A. Adamkienė, who is celebrating his 95th birthday early next year, walks with a walker or clings to something. V. Adamkus complains of back pain, but the ailments did not prevent Adamkus from receiving the third dose of coronavirus.

“I didn’t feel any difference after the first, after the second or after the third. Yes, if someone is afraid that something might happen, at least based on my experience, I can tell how strongly I felt, so I feel now ”Said V. Adamkus.

The president says he doesn’t understand people who fear the vaccine and try to avoid it. According to V. Adamkus, vaccination is everyone’s responsibility towards themselves and the environment.

“Let us fulfill that duty by protecting ourselves and, most importantly, protecting each other because the victims are too great. 5 thousand dead in Lithuania – it is horrible to think that both victims and people lost their lives, ”lamented V. Adamkus.

V. Adamkus also discussed the challenges of the coronavirus with the Speaker of the Seimas invited to the guests.

“We had a warm and very pleasant conversation with the president. A politician with so much experience and wisdom sees perfectly, observing the processes that are happening, the challenges we face, what we need most. We talked about how important it is now to focus on actions of politicians in the face of various crises: pandemics, migration, ”Seimas spokesperson Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen commented on LNK.

In less than a month, more and more guests will likely be coming to the Adamkus House: November 3 will be the president’s 95th birthday. V. Adamkus does not yet say how he will celebrate it, but he reveals his dream.

“May the Supreme give you the strength to communicate with all of you for as long as possible. I am happy that I am still healthy, I try to be more positive and to be able to work, ”said the President.

V. Adamkus travels to the Presidency two or three times a week, where he has an office. There he responds to the letters. He is happy to be remembered and needed, although in an exclusive interview a few months ago, LNK said he felt lonely.
