The President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, expressed his condolences for the death of actor Gediminas Girdvainis.
“We have lost a particularly talented actor, a sincere, open and courageous person. The roles created by Gediminas Girdvainis will always be an important part of the history of Lithuanian theater and cinema,” says the president.
Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis also expressed his condolences.
“Lithuanian culture has lost an exceptionally talented actor who has created memorable roles on stage and in movies. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the Government’s Culture and Art Award of Merit. On the death of Gediminas Girdvainis, I express my sincere condolences to family, friends and to the entire cultural community of the country, “said the prime minister.
The President of Seimas also expresses his condolences on behalf of his family, friends and all fans of his talent.
“The name of Gediminas Girdvainis will always be inseparable from the history of Lithuanian theater and cinema. His unforgettable roles in the most famous Lithuanian films contributed to the strengthening of the Lithuanian language and culture during the oppression and the first period of independence. This legacy will long adorn the world of Lithuanian art. Sincere condolences to the artist’s family and fans of her talent, “says the head of parliament.
Quiet and closed in life, but witty and temperamental in his roles. Both theater and film audiences were fond of laconic humor, often referred to as a lyrical comedian. Having created several dozen movie characters during his lifetime, awarded the Grand Order Officer’s Cross of Vytauts the Great, G. Girdvainis has recently rejoiced in theatrical roles and episodic performances in television series.
In 2014, the actor received the badge of honor from the Ministry of Culture “Bring your light” at the National Drama Theater.
Actor G. Girdvainis has been on stage for over 50 years. Theater and film actors used to meet in the small state theater in Vilnius. According to the creator, the highest peak an actor can reach on stage is to touch tears with the viewer laughing.
“Theater is for me, everything has been and will continue to be. That conversation with the viewer: you feel their breath, you see their experiences, you feel everything. The actor created characters in both film and theater.
