Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga pointed out that a new supplier was needed after the termination of the contract with Lietuvos Paštas, who had kept the equipment until now.

The Ministry informed BNS that it was necessary to look for a new supplier because the agreement with Lietuvos Paštas did not foresee the possibility of an extension.

“These safeguards are not part of the state medical reserve, but they are additional measures to manage COVID-19,” the ministry said.

The acquisition was made by the Health Emergencies Center of the Ministry of Health through a published survey. The center indicates that the value of the cargo will reach about 10-12 million. euros.

The contract is not published on the Central Procurement Portal, the Ministry has not yet submitted the contract to BNS.

The conditions of the tender establish that the supplier must transport around 1.5 thousand. European pallets with personal protective equipment from Lietuvos Paštas warehouses to their warehouses, which must be “no more than 20 km from the border of the city of Kaunas”. They should be stored for up to 80 days.
