A young Vilnius family took the coronavirus out of the city – they didn’t study for almost a month, and then it turned out they were both sick.

Gytis (names changed, known to the editorial board) felt the first symptoms after meeting friends: the temperature rose slightly, to 37 degrees, and his head acted unusual. I thought exactly what a “bacillus is fishing”.

It was the start of the epidemic on March 10, but calling the coronavirus hotline received no help, just advice, to see a family doctor if health deteriorates. The specialists asked according to the protocol: if they had contact with the returnees from abroad or if they had difficulty breathing. Gytis did not feel these symptoms.

He lived a normal quarantine life

He was ill all weekend long: Independence Day has just been celebrated in the country. After two days, Gytis’s health improved and he felt quite well. After a couple of days off, he was still going to work, and then quarantine in the country was announced, as many office workers started working from home. Oddly enough, none of my colleagues got infected on the job, and they were also tested.

Ernest’s wife felt bad in the middle of the week. He joked that his spouse had infected him, he quickly called the hotline in 1808. He received the same questions and the same answer. “The wife was sick longer, kept her temperature for almost a week, had a headache, a stuffy nose and coughed. The sense of smell has slightly decreased,” Gytis said. But a week later, in Gytis’s words, the two were already living a normal quarantine life.

Towards the beginning of April, he received a call from a friend, with whom he was watching a soccer game in the city bar a month ago: he asked him if Gytis did not have a coronavirus. It turns out that the friend carried out and confirmed the test: the test is positive.

A Vaid friend visited the city completely healthy, and after two days he felt symptoms. “It seems that we all get the virus out of the city in the same way. When his wife and I confirmed, we called the line again. We said we had contact with the patient, and that was absolutely true, “Gytis said of the long road to investigation.

Then registered at the mobile point without speech, investigated. His wife was examined first, and then Gytis – the responses to both tests were positive. When asked how she felt when she learned that she and her spouse had contracted a dangerous virus, Gytis said that she did not think of anything bad because they both felt physically good.

Children have not been studied for coronavirus

The young couple is raising two, two and five-year-old children, worried about them, although the cubs did not feel any symptoms. “We tested the whole family with rapid tests, just before the real tests. It showed that me and my three-year-old daughter are healthy and that my wife and son have antibodies. We even moved to separate rooms,” Gytis recalled.

When the spouses took the tests at the mobile point, it turned out that they were both ill. Quarantining no longer made sense. He started asking for tests to be done on the children, but no one studied them. He argued that if there are no symptoms, there is no point in investigating. If it were, it would. Ernesta said that they had received an offer to isolate the children in the municipal facilities, but who would take care of them and how everything would happen, no one specified.

The family decided to isolate themselves at home, spending 37 days there. “But if we had decided to take the children to daycare as soon as they opened, almost no one would have known that we were isolated, a matter of sheer conscience,” he said.

“We tested the whole family with rapid tests, just before the real tests. It showed that me and my three-year-old daughter are healthy and that my wife and son have antibodies. We even moved to separate rooms.”

Donated blood plasma, surprised by some details

A couple of days ago, Gytis and Ernesta repeatedly performed rapid tests, which showed that they both had antibodies. Gytis regularly donates blood, he is a blood donor, so when he found out that the blood of coronavirus patients could be helpful in treating other people, he rushed to the Santariškės Clinic blood center as soon as he received an invitation .

“They measured the temperature, put on disposable shoes, disinfected their hands and completed a questionnaire. The question in the questionnaire is whether you have had a coronavirus when you have recovered. I note that yes, I am ill, I have been considered healthy since 21 April, “Gytis said. The frightened worker asked the question: are you infected with coronavirus? No blood or plasma was taken at that time, thirty days must have passed since the day of recovery.

Gytis was surprised that there was no data or medical history at the blood donation center. Still, a week later he registered to donate blood plasma. “They also asked me if I knew someone about coronavirus. He asked for contacts, he doesn’t see everyone in the system, only if they were treated in Santariškės, “he shrugged.

As evidence of negative test results for COVID-19, Gytis showed a print screen from the portal. esveikata.lt.

“When we first arrived at the mobile station, we were greeted by a terrifying atmosphere: the shooters were on duty, the employees were armed with all possible protective equipment and were wearing suits, we felt like we were in a movie.” Other times, all the firewalls had already been removed, there was a sense of relaxation, in a good way, they were kindly received and the results cleared within a day. ”

Dry got out of the ball

The interlocutor was happy with the family to get out of the ball quite dry: he lost the lie in the hospital, in the same room with six patients, as they have heard from the stories. “We were at home, in a family circle, we felt good, we were not worried,” he said. Especially since they received the support of the family doctor and the hotline, every few days they kept calling and asking how they felt.

Gytis said he noticed a marked difference in the way mobile points were managed at the start of the epidemic and later when it was already gaining momentum. “When we first arrived at the mobile station, we were greeted by a terrifying atmosphere: the shooters were on duty, the employees were armed with all possible protective equipment, they were wearing suits, we felt like we were in a movie.” Other times, all the firewalls had already been removed, there was a sense of relaxation, in a good way, they were kindly received, and the results cleared up in a day, ”he said of his impressions.

However, after confessing to acquaintances that they have been sick with the famous crown, they receive various reactions, generally all of them return. “When the president of the house found out about the family’s illness, he disinfected the staircase and when I accidentally touched a friend’s phone, he just opened his eyes,” Ernesta shared.

“If a friend hadn’t warned him, we would have made a living.” Apparently many people are equally sick, some easier and some more difficult. After all, until there was no quarantine, a normal life took place, ”Gytis reasoned.

Comment from the Ministry of Health (SAM):

The maximum incubation period (time from infection to disease) for COVID-19 disease (coronavirus infection) is 14 days.

In general, it should be noted that at that time, prior to quarantine, only people who had returned from abroad or had contact with a person with a confirmed coronavirus infection were tested for COVID-19 according to the recommendations of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. Therefore, not all people with flu-like symptoms were studied, nor were they asked to isolate themselves for 14 days.

If specialists from the National Center for Public Health (NVSC) had identified the person as an exposed person, they would have been contacted immediately.

Representatives of the Ministry of Social Security and Labor (SADM) gave an answer on childcare if both parents became ill with coronavirus:

If both parents of the children are isolated or have coronavirus and the children do not need to be isolated (they have not had contact with an isolated or sick person, they have not visited abroad):

1. Parents have the opportunity to apply to their municipal administration, designating a close person who can and agrees to temporarily care for the child.

2. If there are no relatives or others related to the child’s emotional ties who can care for the child, the municipality must ensure a safe environment for the child.

In accordance with the Government Resolution announcing quarantine in Lithuania, municipal administrations must guarantee the care of children and people with disabilities in exceptional cases in institutions, if such care is not possible at home.

Therefore, each municipality must ensure that children deprived of parental care in its territory receive temporary accommodation (a safe environment). Municipalities may also use guardians, on-call guardians for this purpose, who would agree to temporarily care for such children.

The head of the National Blood Center answered Delfi’s questions. Dr. Vaidas Gančauskas:

– If blood donors may be infected with coronavirus – How long does it take after illness?

– We take blood from patients with COVID-19 infection. It must have been 28 days. after confirmed recovery (after two consecutive negative COVID-19 PCR tests performed every 24 hours).

– What patient data can blood establishments see if the inter-institutional link is working? How is information on communicable diseases handled?

– Through the DRC (Blood Donor Registry), blood establishments can view previous donor donations that have been made in their own blood establishment or in other blood establishments. Information on these donations can also be consulted (reactive infectious markers such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, HIV, parvovirus infections, and other relevant data).

Most of the requirements for the quarantine regime have been eased. Delfi remembers the most important changes:
