The 59-year-old man’s life was extinguished in the clinics of the Vilnius Santara University Hospital.
Due to complications from the COVID-19 disease, the person was admitted to Mažeikiai Hospital in the second half of November. Here, according to Sigitas Kaktis, director of the Mažeikiai Hospital, the businessman was treated for about a week. Later, due to the deterioration of his health, he was transferred to the Klaipėda University Hospital, and from there to the Santara Clinics, by agreement of relatives and doctors.
This is not the first big loss this week at Mažeikiai. The Delfi portal wrote that the life of a well-known surgeon from Mažeikiai Hospital, a board member of the Lithuanian Medical Movement who treated coronavirus patients, also died on Wednesday. The doctor was 57 years old.
S. Kaktys said that a total of 37 coronavirus patients died at Mažeikiai Hospital. Seven of them were transferred to Mažeikiai hospital from other medical institutions, already in serious condition.
After Šiauliai, Mažeikiai had become a city where one of the largest cases of coronavirus was recorded in Lithuania. According to data from the Registry Center, currently the two-week morbidity rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the Mažeikiai district municipality is 1,173.2 cases.
