“We came to the hospital because after being sick at home for a while, my daughter began to feel lazy. I knew it was a serious sign and needed to see a doctor. After inspecting, they sent us to another room to watch. I thank the doctors that after their care, my daughter’s health improved and we were able to drive home the next morning. However, I want to tell you about an interesting situation in the hospital: the parents are forced to starve here, “said Renata .

She has been in the hospital with a sick child from 1 pm until 11 pm the next morning, the woman said she had not received a cup of tea.

“During all this time, my daughter brought porridge twice, for breakfast and dinner. For me, nothing. It turns out that the food is offered together only to parents whose children are up to three years old. It no longer belongs to others. I am not saying that I came here to eat, but it is natural that I missed all day. What if they had been lying for a long time? You have to choose, or you are hungry or you eat your sick child, “the woman asked rhetorically.

The woman was told that she herself could not buy food at the hospital and that the requirements of the pandemic did not allow her to leave the ward.

“There is no place to buy food, but even if it was, you could not do it, because COVID-19 means that you cannot leave the room, you have to be in it all the time. You could not even go out to pick up the food that you brought, “Renata said. – The nurses themselves told me – we know there is such a problem, we ask a question, but nobody solves anything. I asked them what to do if I had to lie down for a week, they just shrugged. “

Hospital comment:

Vilnius City Raimonda Steikūnienė, the Chief Nursing Administrator of the Clinical Hospital, confirmed that according to the approved procedures, one of the parents hospitalized with a child under 3 years of age in this hospital is fed. He gets food 3 times a day. However, others do not have this service.

“A parent with older children is entitled to meals only if the child suffers from certain diseases from the list approved by order of the director,” explained R. Steikūnienė.

The hospital cafe has been open since July and can be eaten or purchased by hospital staff, subject to safety precautions. At that time, it is not recommended that parents who meet children in the hospital walk out of the wards due to the risk of infection; this is especially emphasized in the isolation room.

R. Steikūnienė said that parents cannot order food from the hospital for an additional fee. “Because patients receive diet meals in the hospital, practice shows that there are not enough people who want to order such a meal that it is worth giving it,” he said, suggesting a way out: “Parents can call a messenger and get the ordered food. “
