“Where I really think it was a mistake, but we really made it, apparently not only in Lithuania, thinking that there would be enough local quarantines, remember the municipalities, painted in different colors of traffic lights. Europe has tried to apply a similar model. Now practically all of Europe it’s red, our municipalities are just as red, ”A. Veryga told LRT radio on Thursday.

However, it emphasizes that the extremely difficult situation in the country was due to the fact that the population did not comply with the requirements and recommendations that were applied.

“One operations manager can hardly handle the whole situation. But we can definitely say that Lithuania is really going through a very difficult time during the second wave of virus spread, and it is not just a matter of the head of operations or just the work of the Government, ”he said.

The Minister emphasized that it was always easier to look at the situation from one perspective, look back and consider what could have been done better.

“After the introduction of the quarantine, we all wait those two or three weeks to see if the numbers start to decrease, then we said that later it will be decided whether or not more measures are needed. Then we talked about stagnant numbers and the infection rate had started to decrease, “he recalled.

“I would not agree with the saying that the government has not taken measures and to close the country completely, as it was in the spring, I do not know if it is rational, because it has other consequences,” Veryga said.

According to him, the consequence of the total closure of the country is the late and untimely provision of health services, the deterioration of mental health and the increasing number of suicides.

The government-adopted quarantine stiffeners went into effect Wednesday: No more than two families are allowed to meet, seniors are transitioning to full distance education, and supermarkets are demanding stricter restrictions on flows of cash. customers.

Prime Minister-designate Ingrida Šimonytė called on the government to adopt stricter quarantine measures at its meeting on Wednesday, but the outgoing Cabinet of Ministers stated that no concrete proposals had been tabled.

According to the latest data on Wednesday, in Lithuania COVID-19 80 thousand. 556 people, 45 thousand. 798 – still sick, 33 thousand. 708 – recovered.

A total of 704 people died from coronavirus in Lithuania and 348 people died from other causes.
