According to the minister, the Ministry of Health has proposed extending the quarantine until December 31, but the government has decided to extend it until December 16 and 17, after which decisions will be made by the new government.

What arguments did A.Veryga use when proposing to continue the quarantine until the new year? He says we should also include the holiday period and allow people to plan life without big holidays.

“However, it was decided that the next government could also decide the terms and duration of the quarantine,” he said.

“Apparently, the ministers did not want to put their decisions at the head of the new government,” Veryga added.

Consider closing grocery stores on weekends

According to the minister, it was also discussed that supermarket owners will be required to ensure that people do not congregate, in order to provide 10 square meters of space per customer.

“If we observe that the situation does not change, next week the government is determined to make decisions on work restrictions on some weekend day, as was done in Latvia,” said the minister. According to him, the neighboring country has banned working in large supermarkets on weekends, where people choose to spend their free time.

The minister assured that it would be difficult to analyze how many people could have been infected in supermarkets because many times the people themselves do not know where they were infected.

He considered that if museums were allowed to work, those who visit supermarkets probably would not go to them anyway, so now it is not being considered allowing the functioning of cultural institutions.

“The most logical thing would be to close everything for two weeks, maybe then the spread of the virus would stop,” the question was raised whether the operation of supermarkets should not stop at all for two weeks, the minister said.

However, he said, the government has decided not to impose stricter quarantine conditions.

He called for no meetings for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

A.Veryga assured that if the situation improves, it is probably not a restriction of movement between cities during Christmas. “I have no doubt that there will be a call for a more moderate reception of the holidays,” said the minister.

A.Veryga assured that it would not be necessary to rent farmhouses and gather friends for company celebrations. “It is definitely not possible to do that at this time and there would be no need to plan such events,” the minister said.

He urged the emigrants not to return to fulfill the holidays in Lithuania. According to him, the risk arises not only during the trip, but also when going to relatives.

“Isn’t our desire to be at the festive table too high a price for people’s lives?” Asked A. Veryga rhetorically.

According to the minister, the fact that the situation does not improve does not necessarily mean that the quarantine was announced late.

Chimneys – about 700

According to Daiva Razmuvienė, representative of the National Center for Public Health, new cases were reported in all ten counties, mainly in Kaunas and Vilnius counties.

“Ten cases are not assigned to any region,” he said.

According to D.Razmuvienė, half of all coronavirus cases have been registered in the last two weeks. It is also observed that more and more young people are getting sick and dying.

“The infection has been recorded in nursing homes, medical facilities and the home environment,” he said.

There are about 700 outbreaks, the virus is transmitted to families, social care and treatment facilities.

“This week will be the third quarantine, maybe we should already see those results,” said D. Ramzuvienė.

According to the Department of Statistics, 1,192 new cases of coronavirus were detected in Lithuania per day.
