The minister said quarantine is important as a legal regime. According to him, lawyers are currently evaluating whether it should be extended beyond May 31 or whether it can be completed.

According to the minister, the disease has not disappeared anywhere, and there are countries in Europe where the disease is uncontrollable. “We must protect the citizens of our country from imported cases,” he explained.

“There are many suggestions regarding the number of participants, and how it will be decided, it will be decided in a collegial way,” said A. Veryga. “We are talking about hundreds of people, not thousands.”

Veryga said that after receiving more and more reports from merchants, people often come without masks, but recalled that these measures are still necessary indoors.

The Minister also asked to be socially sensitive and not discriminate in any way against older people simply because they are at risk.

“There is no sense in discriminating, avoiding or eliminating people,” said the minister, adding: “They cannot stop living.”

According to the Minister, recommendations for the organization of graduation events are currently being prepared: the “last call”, graduations.

In addition, A.Veryga assured that a platform had been agreed with the European Commission, where it would be possible to sell prescription drugs remotely. The minister assured that the system will be operational by the end of the year.

“No one knows if there will be that second wave if it was this tool that would really help some patients,” he said.

In Žirmūnai, the virus spreads

The number of new coronavirus cases detected Tuesday is still unclear due to technical flaws, the health ministry said.

At the press conference G. Megelinskienė announced that another employee of Žirmūnai RIMI and Kareivių st. An employee of the McDonalds restaurant who was the last to work on May 9.

Relatives of a McDonalds employee are also ill. According to preliminary data from NVSC, this restaurant and the RIMI culinary workshop stagnate.

“It appears that the McDonalds case is also related to the Vilnius City Clinical Hospital,” said G. Megelinskienė.

According to her, the situation in this hospital remains difficult until now, Prosecutors were contacted to act. Here 36 cases were identified, 9 people died.

Infected by infectologists at the Santara clinics

Four employees of the Santara clinics were also infected. A resuscitation worker, suspected of being infected, was contacted from the Vilnius Clinical Hospital, and three more were infected by employees of the Center for Infectious Diseases.

“Three staff members, it’s a shame, but they’re sick at the Center for Infectious Diseases, that unit treats people who have been approved for COVID-19. One felt symptoms, the other two did not. The agent was isolated during a prophylactic study.

Epidemiological diagnosis and identification of those in active contact are currently ongoing and the NVSC will conduct a survey of all personnel working in the unit. On their own initiative, the Santara Clinics are conducting additional training on the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, cleaning and disinfection of facilities, and steps are being taken to stop the spread of infection, “said G. Megelinskienė.

The Kaunas Clinical Hospital also identified four new cases of COVID-19 for the staff of the Reanimation and Intensive Care Unit. Nine more employees are isolated and will be investigated.

“The initial hypothesis was that they could have been infected in the workplace and that there was a possible inadequate labor organization,” said G. Megelinskiene.

NVSC also received information about the infection from an auxiliary employee of the Vilnius Republican Hospital without contact with patients and doctors. All staff have been re-examined and results are expected.

The number of new cases per day has not yet been counted

Data from the National Center for Public Health (NVSC) was delayed Tuesday due to the failure, so far only the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases is known, but some of these cases can be identified by retesting.

A total of 37 positive coronavirus cases have been identified in the labs, and the number of new ones is expected to be reviewed later on Tuesday.

During Monday, 6,496 coronavirus tests were performed in Lithuania, the total number of tests was 237.6 thousand.

According to the latest published data, 1547 cases of coronavirus were detected in Lithuania.
