The findings were two, on different days, but one after another. Its content varied.
“A honeycomb, a jar of honey, a piece of meat, an imposed coin, a cigarette were placed. And in another place there was also honey, eggs, cake, chocolate, meat too, a packet of coins and cigarettes, ”Pavel Saveljev, head of the Eiguliai cemetery, told LNK.
The first elements are further from the main path, there are no extremely old burials or care graves.
“This is exactly the intersection where we found these strange finds, at the intersection of two roads,” said Ričardas Česna, Director of Cemetery Supervision.
The second find is on the fence, next to the main track, about 150 meters from the first elements.
“The composition was a bit surprising. I couldn’t say that someone loaded it and lost it, because the articles were arranged according to a certain order, ”said R. Česna.
The food has already been thrown away, but there are still eggs, lots of pennies and cigarettes in some places.
The Cemetery Care director tried to explain what these items might mean.
Kaunas residents recall that in some beliefs people eat at graves and leave food for the dead. However, all this takes place only on the territory of a certain cemetery.
The ethnologist says that this finding has nothing to do with other religions and their rites.
“In this way, people play with very dangerous things,” said Arūnas Vaicekauskas.
The interlocutor argued that black magic could be used here.
“Those things are not accidental, because both honey and eggs have long been used in ceremonies. It is in the rites that are connected with that world ”, explained the ethnologist.
He believes that young people attended the ceremony.
“Maybe it’s a modern group of people, maybe a person young enough who cares about interacting with that world,” he said.
However, no matter what you try to do, you cannot leave cakes, chocolates or other foods in the graveyard in the middle of the trail, as this attracts wild beasts and destroys graves.
