About the exhibition “From That Opera”
The exhibition “From That Opera” offers a different journey behind the scenes of the theater and the opportunity to get to know as closely as possible up to 27 international opera stars. For a long time, as if the “bohemians” on the other side of the opera were unfolding, non-traditional, atypical ways and forms of the exhibition were sought. Therefore, they are presented in an experiential exhibition-installation, in which visitors to the exhibition are invited to get to know the behind the scenes of the opera and thus learn about the history of VCO.
Visitors are invited to take a close look at the spectacular scenery of set designers Dick Bird and Marius Jacovskis, inside. Fragments of well-known operas come to life in new ways, complemented by projections by multimedia artist Rimas Sakalauskas and phenotypes by photographer Mindaugas Meškauskas, who works with the ancient technique of wet collodium.

The exhibition is dedicated to the centenary of professional opera, 100 years ago, in 1920. On December 31, the opera “Traviata” by G. Verdi was presented for the first time in Kaunas. In today’s Lithuania, in addition to the classical tradition, groups that create bold operational alternatives also thrive. Bohemians, which began their activities in 2006, became one of the most important in 2012, becoming the second professional opera theater in Lithuania – the Vilnius City Opera. Once upon a time, it seemed as if young people had come “not from that opera”, today they are the most famous opera not only in Lithuania, but in the whole world.
