The demolition of P. Ruseckas’ historic village in Perkūno Alley received not only great public outrage, but also the attention of state institutions. After collecting the signatures of some 200 residents, an investigation was requested, finding those responsible for the destruction of the town and the obligation to restore it.

The incident, the circumstances of which are currently being investigated by officers from the Kaunas Žaliakalnis Police Station, was also unavoidable.

After receiving a statement from an employee of the company that demolished the building on Saturday, October 17, a pre-trial investigation was launched for a possible violation of public order. The applicant claimed that violence had been used against him during the observation of many people, which had been covered by the media. In the statement, he mentioned that he had experienced unpleasant sensations, as well as hurts, and felt publicly humiliated.

The incident itself was filmed and later distributed through the media. The images show how the worker is pushed by the architect and public figure of Kaunas Audrys Karalius, who had previously ripped the mask from his face.

The prosecutor in charge of the pre-trial investigation told the Delfi portal that the conclusions of the forensic experts are currently awaited.

“The pre-trial investigation for a violation of public order has begun, but the rating is not final until today, it may change. Everything will depend on what decision is made after receiving all the material, evaluating all the data collected.

A medical statement has been received, but we still do not have the opinion of the forensic experts, ”said Edita Sangavičiūtė, Prosecutor of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office who oversees the pre-trial investigation.

It will depend on the verdict of the experts if the judicial investigation initiated for breach of public order will be complemented with articles of the Penal Code that provide for responsibility for causing physical pain or health disorders.

Proof of guilt would result in a fine, arrest, or imprisonment

According to the prosecutor, the investigation is greatly facilitated by the fact that the incident was filmed. Although it is clear from the video, which was distributed through the media, that the person is being pushed by A. Karalius of Kaunas, the report of the suspicion has not been delivered to him.

“It just came to our attention then. Until I have all the material, I cannot say that everything will be done this week. That it is a crime is a fact, just a question of how it will be qualified. And there must be consequences, violence against people is not possible, regardless of who it is, ”said prosecutor E. Sangavičiūtė.

Article 284 of the Penal Code, which provides responsibility for the violation of public order, establishes that anyone in a public place has disrespected others or has been arrested or imprisoned for up to two years.
