Today, the Vilnius City Council approved the boathouse development concept, which was proposed by the Vilniaus Vystymo Kompanija company for the management of the building located on the Neris embankment, T. Kosciuškos street. The prepared project of a place for rowing services and entertainment catering will soon be presented to the public and, after approval, will be sold at auction.

“The building arranged in this way will comply with the architectural concept and the method of use acceptable to the Vilnius city municipality, and a privately financed object, a boathouse and a catering establishment, will appear in a representative location of historical importance for the city, “commented Vilnius City Deputy Mayor Tomas Gulbinas. – This is the first such project of the municipality and the Vilnius Development Company, when not only the property is sold, but also its development concept, thus protecting the city from unwanted development visions and ambitions in an area sensitive. Perhaps in the future we can present this as a good practice of public-private cooperation. “

Project proposals for this new attraction center will be presented to the public in the near future. After receiving the approval of public and municipal specialists and the special architectural and heritage protection requirements, the conditions for connection to communications, the shed will be sold at public auction together with the prepared project proposals. The contract of sale will establish an obligation for the buyer to carry out the reconstruction of the shed in accordance with the architectural concept foreseen in the project proposals and the specified purpose. The maximum term for the preparation and construction of a construction permit and the penalties for breach of the sale contract will also be set.

The first wooden pier on this site was built in 1910, in 1932. The Vilnius rowing club was opened. 1950-1972 the tradition of the rowing club was continued and a paddling pool was installed between the marinas. Currently, it is an unregistered cultural heritage asset with enduring historical, architectural and cultural value. It is planned that the site will be managed in the territory of the left embankment of Neris, so it is envisaged that the design solutions of the developed object must be consistent with the development plans of the embankment, and the works must be carried out in coordination with the embankment .
