A mother who works from home and takes care of a two-year-old child cannot take it anymore: she has not closed kindergartens, but she does not accept a child

One of the mothers shared her usual day combining teleworking and two-year care.

So far, she has taken her son to one of the kindergartens in Ukmergė, but has not been able to do so for some time, because her workplace allows her to work from home. In other words, you can only be admitted to an educational institution if both parents provide certificates that they do not have the opportunity to work from home.

“Currently, I telecommute and at the same time supervise kindergarten, she is two years old. The first few days it seemed like it was possible, but after two days I had to sit in front of the computer in the evenings when my husband came back and did work that I couldn’t do during work hours. “

According to her, her work starts at 7:30, the main job – with a computer and programs. A woman’s husband goes to work at that time, and the child sleeps differently, he gets up from 7 to 7:30, sometimes there are days when he sleeps until 8 o’clock.

“While he sleeps, I quietly turn on the computer and work. When the child wakes up, he needs to be taken to the bathroom, dressed, talked to, loved. “Bathing” the computer and at the same time showing attention to the child is completely incompatible. Later, you need to make breakfast for him, play with him, talk, think of various activities. At the same time, it has become a computer everywhere. “

According to her young mother, she does it in the kitchen at the table, in the bedroom on the bed, in the living room, and anywhere else the nursery wants.

You can’t even think of parsley coffee

“Of course you can turn on the TV or video phone and leave it on silent. Sure, there are times like that, but I really don’t want my little boy to spend time with movies all day. When I get to bed for lunch, I have to put him to sleep and fall asleep lying next to him, but the computer didn’t sit next to him anyway. I’m trying to sleep while I have a lunch break at work. “

Also, he continued the story when he falls asleep, trying to work as much as possible because he cannot know how much he is sleeping, or 1 hour. or half an hour, or 2 pm

“There are no thoughts about coffee breaks or rest. When he woke up, he went back to doing the same activity as in the morning. Dressing me up, walking me to the bathroom, etc. So, my situation does not interest anyone. Kindergarten without certificate, because both parents need to provide a certificate to the kindergarten that they do not have the opportunity to work from home, does not accept. I called the kindergarten director, she said she could not accept without a certificate, even though there were a couple of children left in the groups. “

He also stated that he had asked the municipality from which he had received a response to obtain a certificate of incapacity for work.

“Yes, yes, it is easier for everyone to emit incapacity to work and sit like that for a month, maybe even longer. First of all, I started working on it because I needed money. Second, I have not worked 3 months to get disability benefit. Both the child and the work suffer. My conscience already shakes me that my son sees me in front of the computer from morning to night, that I cannot educate him, participate in his favorite activities “.

“The regime was not introduced from the good life”

When Delfi contacted the director of the Ukmergė kindergarten mentioned above, he asked him to discuss the matter with the Ukmergė district. Vaidotas Kalinas, Head of the Department of Education and Sports of the municipality. He explained why the recommendation had become mandatory in his municipality.

“We have a regime that restricts the spread of infections from December 9. to December 22. It is by order of the director of administration that these institutions are required to organize child care groups.

It also describes how that procedure requires parents to submit employer certificates and an application to attend a group. However, I do know in some cases, due to the kindergarten in question, that they found those common solutions in similar situations very benevolently. “

V. Kalin also explained that it is now necessary to spend a few days with the parents, because in several kindergartens in Ukmergė, including the one visited by a woman’s child, a very dangerous situation had arisen due to the spread of the virus.

“That regime was not introduced for a good life,” explained the presenter.

The prime minister spoke of closing kindergartens

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė agrees that it is difficult for parents working remotely during quarantine, who have decided not to leave their children in kindergartens, to combine work with childcare, Elta reported today .

However, the Prime Minister emphasizes that the situation regarding the operation of kindergartens during the quarantine period is ambiguous and emphasizes that the closure of preschool and preschool educational institutions would also be difficult for parents caring for multiple children. of different ages.

The Minister of Social Security and Labor, Linas Kukuraitis I. Šimonytė, who had completed her term in the Seimas session, asked if the Government could take responsibility and close the kindergartens and pay sickness benefits to the parents who care for them. to the kids.

“It just came to our notice then. And those parents who have taken responsibility and are not directing the children, they have to babysit and work remotely. They cannot accept the newsletter and sickness benefit, and then the burden. on the family increases significantly and mental risk also increases ”, said L. Kukuraitis.

The Prime Minister agreed with the MP’s statements and acknowledged that the situation with regard to kindergarten activities is quite ambiguous.

“Indeed, the situation with regard to kindergartens is quite ambiguous, so that, on the one hand, it would be the easiest to close kindergartens, and the experts also consider it one of the most effective measures. And it is not a question of money, it is a question of mental health “, admitted I. Šimonytė.

However, the prime minister emphasizes that this situation does not have an easy solution, because, on the other hand, according to her, it is not easy for parents who stay at home with several children of different ages. “For a mother at home, being locked up with several children, one of whom is older and has to study, and is a small child to take care of, is also quite a complicated burden. And there is definitely no easy solution here, ”said I. Šimonytė.

“But I agree that if kindergartens were closed, it would certainly be a very clear mechanism for the payment of sickness benefits,” the prime minister added.
