I didn’t feel the fever

In March Martyn attended an important conference in London. Even then, a worldwide pandemic was declared, protective equipment was used at the event, and disinfectant was used. As the man said, the organizers ensured that the events were fully prepared and that every effort was made to prevent people from becoming infected.

When he returned to Vilnius a couple of days later, he felt very tired but didn’t even think he might have a fever.

“I was tired, there was a lot of running, stress. I returned to Lithuania on Friday night and on Sunday I felt very tired. The feeling of not being strong at all, I thought I was just overworked and tired. I didn’t even think it could have a temperature. A little later my friend offered to measure the temperature and then I saw that 38.5orC ”, said Martynas.

The man had a fever for two days. “Anyway, when you have temperature, it is cold, you feel tired; the temperature stops you in some way, and this time it was not,” said Martynas.

Sick at the start of the pandemic

Martynas was one of the first in Lithuania to be diagnosed with COVID-19 infection.

“No one knew what to do,” recalls the man. – At the time, it was still not easy to investigate. There were no fever points or clinics. Then he could only be taken to the hospital and only in the hospital could he be examined. And only the Santara clinics had that opportunity. ”

“There was a lot of chaos at the time, everyone was very confused, it was the first days of the pandemic. That was normal. And I was scared, the announcement of the pandemic caused additional stress, naturally, that ignorance is terrifying. Later, When you start to get interested, talk to the doctors, little by little you will start to catch up, “said the man.

When Martynas was diagnosed with a COVID-19 coronavirus infection, not only for Lithuania but also for other countries in the world, such a situation was new and unusual, causing uncertainty and fear. At that time, there were no fever clinics or mobile coronavirus checkpoints in Lithuania. The man himself thought he was tired.

The girlfriend was very concerned about her health, then, in the face of the tension over COVID-19, Martyn called a special phone line and they called the couple in an ambulance. Then, in Vilnius, only doctors from the Santara clinics could take a sample for the coronavirus exam. Not only Martynas, but also his friend, investigated. The husband was diagnosed with the infection, the girlfriend (although the couple lived together) was not.

Weakened sense of smell

When Martynas went to the hospital, she had a strange, then little-known, symptom: a weakening of the sense of smell. Until now, publications have already written about the disappearance of smell.

“It just came to our attention then. It smells, but half. Let’s say when you get food in the hospital, you smell harder to smell, and then you recover even when you go through the oils, you smell them right away, and then, let’s say, you go through the oils and you have to walk, smell, to understand that smell, Martynas said. “Later, when I was interested in the symptoms, it was written that some people have such a strange symptom. I had no runny nose, but my nose was Very stuffy. Because even when the smear was taken, it was very difficult to do. After I recovered and retested, it was not a problem getting the smear. “

As far as Martin has information, he was infected on the plane returning from London to Vilnius: representatives of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC) reported that a woman sitting behind her husband had been diagnosed with the infection.

“Digging deeper and talking to the doctors, I came to the conclusion that the patient would not overwhelm him when he generally walks down the street, but it is still significantly more dangerous on the plane because the air is recirculated,” Martynas said.

Saw more severe patients

Martynas remained in the hospital for 10 days. The man then compared his condition to other patients who were later seen in the hospital and was considered a mild patient. Still, enduring the illness was not so easy.

“When you are lying next to someone who is being refreshed with a mask and oxygen and you are sitting without it, it doesn’t feel too bad.” But for 10 days, the bones were broken so they didn’t look like much, Martynas recalls.

– When there are people who say that there is no COVID-19 and people do not die, then try to tell them that it still exists. So you ask, man, what are you reading, where does your news come from? Then find out that these are Russian sources and various Facebook groups. This is how people believe in strange things. “

Although Martin became ill with the new coronavirus, doctors based on preliminary calculations informed the man that immunity had developed over 6 months, which must still be monitored.

Even now, everything about this infection is not known and confirmed, and there was much less information a few months ago.

In late May, experts from the University of Amsterdam spread the following message: Immunity to protect against reinfection with human coronaviruses is acquired in just six months.

“Everyone asked a lot of questions and nobody had the answers. As a result, most of the stress is there, there is uncertainty, “recalls Martynas.

The confrontation with the disease led the Vilnius man to take more care of himself. When Martin finally received a negative test response after 3 weeks, the man finally wanted to move. Therefore, since the beginning of the recovery, a Vilnius resident has been playing sports and eating well.
