According to investigators, on Saturday afternoon, law enforcement agencies received a report of the hostage-taking at a bank building on Zemlianoj Val Street.

“According to investigators, the intruder had an object similar to an explosive device,” said Ivanova.

The official noted that the suspect was detained during a special operation organized by the police and the Russian Guard.

The fact of his arrest was confirmed by an informed source at Interfax, who stated that no bomb had been found in the man.

“He was arrested. It turned out that the explosive device was a hand-to-hand combat, “said the agency interlocutor.

It is suspected that the incident was due to the man’s arrears on the loans taken.

“All the hostages have already been released, their lives and health are no longer in danger,” Ivanova said, adding that the circumstances of the incident are under investigation.

In the case presented, the suspect faces up to 15 years in prison.

The Moskovskij komsomolec newspaper announced on its Telegram channel that the detainee was Alexei Baryshnikov, 34, who was born in Nizhnevartovsk.

The man reportedly works as a courier at a food delivery company. He is a Russian citizen and temporarily resides in Moscow. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a Delivery Club courier uniform, according to reports.

The company denied that its employee was involved in the attack.

“Until now, we have not received any request from law enforcement agencies. We also do not have inside information that confirms the participation of a real courier service in this event,” the representatives of the Delivery Club assured.
